When should I turn in a transition leave packet? My ETS date is 07 September 2017. Also what's the max days am I allowed to take?

As for max days, you can expend all of your accrued leave plus whatever you'd earn while on that leave.
When to turn in the leave request will depend on local policy, but in my experience most units and posts simply make it part of the out processing checklist. Your chain-of-command should provide the checklist and counseling about six months out so you can plan appointments and the like with your FLL.

Great question have you completed SFL_TAP? Everyone has different leave programs go to your PLT SGT or NCOIC and get what is authorized in your BDE. Also they will assist on your time table of events.

You could turn in your ETS leave right now. Take every day you'll earn. Some units have a policy that leave over 30, 45, or 60 days may require the battalion commander signature. But that is a local policy; the Army doesn't have any policy on how much leave you can take.

Here on Bragg, at my unit, ETS packets are accepted 180 days/6 months out from ETS or Terminal Leave date. Take however many days of leave you will have at ETS, and then subtract those days on the calendar, which will give you your potential Terminal Leave date. Then go back 6 months from that date for when you can turn in your ETS packet. The sooner the better, and make copies of everything you intend to submit... just in case.

Knowing Fort Drum, definitely have your team leader, squad leader, PSG, and 1SG engage your BN leadership to ensure what policies are in place in your respective BN and BDE. Be proactive in the process, ask questions, and expect answers. Your leadership is there for a reason. Utilize them as they have used their leaders in the past.

Granted I was AF, but terminal leave was a checkbox on the out processing checklist. You should be entitled to however many days you have earned when you submit the checklist plus whatever you will earn between submitting checklist and ETS.
On a different note entirely, used to fly missions at AF Ft Drum RBS site all the time. Recall many times when they were snowed in at the site this time of the year. Is that operation still up and running?

Here at Fort Sill you can schedule an appointment with your Transition Office and they have the ability to do a leave calculation worksheet. Not sure if all Transitions will do this but never hurts to try.

Son is in Korea, was supposed to be state side in July and his paperwork keeps getting stalled at Brigade. He has submitted it 3 times (with his plt sgt and cmd), he is now 2 mths past his date, his wife and new born son are back in the states since March (she is in the Army as well). I am ready to call my Senator to figure out what is going on.
