So when wearing ASUs, you wear all your unit awards (self and unit). When wearing the Dress Blues version (with bowtie), I know you remove your DUI. The part I haven't been able to find in either AR or DAPAM 670-1 is whether you only wear your own unit awards (as you would in a DA Photo), or if you wear your unit's as well.

Thanks to those who help out. NCOs can always learn something.

Same principle applies. They just come off for official photos (and after retirement) if not part of your permanent record. Dress Blues with Bow Tie (Military Ball, Dining In/Out, etc.) follows the same rules as the ASU's.

Especially if this is a unit event. A great reason to wear the awards your unit earned!

DA PAM 670-1, para 22-10, table 22-1, note 1 states that "When a soldier is permanently awarded a unit award and is subsequently assigned to a unit that has received the same unit award, the Soldier will wear the permanent award in lieu of the temporary unit award." Is it just custom that one usually wears both temporary and permanent unit awards? Or is it spelled out somewhere else?

SGT (Join to see) - You wear both. Example: I have a permanent MUC. My unit has a PUC and MUC. By reg, I only wear PUC and 1 MUC, no OLC (hence the "in lieu of" verbiage)

SFC (Join to see) Thanks, that's what I was getting at. I've been told by past supervisors that if both you and your unit have the award, you wear both (in your case, wearing the MUC with 1 OLC). Just wanted to make sure.

I looked at DA PAM 670-1, para 22-10 (table 22-1) , 13-10, and 13-13 indicate that permanent and temporary unit awards are authorized on the ASU and Dress uniform. 13-10 lumps the two uniforms together except where otherwise indicated.

Appendix B of AR 600-8-22 will indicate which unit awards are authorized for temporary wear. There are some sister service unit awards that are not authorized for temporary wear.

If someone is telling you that it isn't, respectfully ask them to show you why it ain't....bet they can't. I did learn that the DUI on the shoulder straps was not authorized on the dress uniform, so thanks for that.
