Where and when did you attend PNCOC/PLDC/WLC?

I attended PLDC in June 1999 in Fort Leonard Wood, MO...the new barracks had just opened and we were the first ones to occupy them; single person rooms with a shared bathroom/kitchenette.  What a life! I was conditionally promoted to SGT, so I felt the extra pressure of passing everything...the first time! Funny Story:  We had a lights out curfew at 2000, but we all had TVs in our rooms and I was watching the NBA Finals and I hear a knock on my window (first floor)...my instructor called me outside (they were allowed in our barracks; strange) and told me to turn the damn TV off and go to bed.  I heard a little more the next day, but it was worth it.

Fort Sill, 1985-back then it had 2 different names depending on where you were at some installation called it PLC, some called it PNCOC. On Sill it was PNCOC, we still had the WWII wide open bay (50 double bunk) with 2 giant wall fans at one end of the bldg.

I attended PLDC August of 1989, at Fort Knox, KY.  It was in the same quad area of 1-46 Infantry.....I served as the Senior Enlisted Leader of 1-46 IN about 20 years later....both experiences (WLC & CSM) were great for growing as an enlisted leader.....we should always strive to learn & grow, and more importantly pass along our knowledge.  I believe success includes sharing my mistakes so others do not make the same mistakes.

PLDC Ft. Lewis, WA. SEP 14 (maybe 15th?) 2001. Had a class of about 20. Only people that made it there were within driving distance except for me. I was literally on one of the first flights out after 9/11 after the airlines opened back up. Was very surreal.

February-March 2011 Ft. Carson, Colorado. It was during that timeframe when they were trying to "condense" the training curriculum. Took out Land Nav. The field was only 3 days. I feel like I got jipped. I went home every day and had the weekends off. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed going home and seeing my wife and kids, but I expected so much more from an NCOES School. I mastered the "Ctrl-F" function. Learned SMESC and RIMSRCIS, and OAKOC (or OCOKA), but only the absolute basics of them. I felt like the whole thing was rushed.

I attended PLDC in April of 2003 at Fort Benning, Ga. There was mold growing from the vents of the heating system and nothing you did seem to make it go away. We didn't have doors in our two man rooms and marched to class everyday. Drill and Ceremonies was evaluated and you couldn't pass the course unless you skillfully passed the Land Nav course. The good 'ol days.

PLDC 1986 S. Korea, was in a little compound inbetween Camp Casey and Hovey. WWII style barraks. Yes we had a house boy.........and a NCO club just for us, didnt understand it but didnt complain.

I attended PLDC at Camp Jackson South Korea October-November 2004. It was a fun time other than the fact that on Camp Jackson, there really wasnt anything. One big plus though, the Katusa Snack Bar up on the hill. Except for breakfast and occasionally lunch, I dont think I ate at the DFAC the whole month.

I attended PLDC at Ft. Drum NY from April to May, 1992. For that one month, I lived in the renovated WWII barracks that had two to a room. Our SGL was SSG Z., who was an 11B and a Ranger. I learned a lot from that NCO. He had our platoon conducting OPFOR during the FTX and we gave the other platoons HELL! I don't think they slept. About a year later, I remember picking up a Soldier of Fortune magazine and reading SSG Z.'s article about his exploits in the early part of Operation Restore Hope. It was like, "Hey, I know that author!". I graduated PLDC and made the Commandant's List.

I attended PLDC in September 1999 at Ft. Knox, KY. No TVs or single man rooms there. We lived 4 to a room and the SGLs were allowed wherever they wanted. The lawnmowers were all broken but the grass still needed cut (scissors/sheers and weedwackers). We edged with e-tools. I also distinctly remember not being allowed to go anywhere. There was a van that came around for us to give them our BDUs and class A's to get cleaned and pressed as needed. It was a really good time though and one I will never forget.

FORT HOOD, TX. NOV. 1996 - PLDC was in the old WORLD WAR II barracks where the Copeland center is now. They were so old you could see straight through the barracks wall, and it was cold.

PLDC at Ft Hood, TX 05 JAN - 04 FEB 00. I was I believe the last class to use the old WWII barracks. I remember the bathroom floor was tile and horribly cracked. Some of the toilets and urinals didn't work nor the showers. I know it was TX but the heat went out in the middle of the night like 2 or 3 times and we had to call in emergency work orders. Oh yeah, it was big open bay. I think there were 40 of us in there. It was great...NOT!!! Good training though and the SGLs brought a TV out to our FTX because that was Superbowl Sunday.

I attended WLC in Grafenwoehr, Germany from October 1 2008 to October 30 2008. We were not able to leave at all. It to me made the course better that way. I makes you stay focused on what your there to do. The long class also allowed for a pretty decent field problem. Considering I was a PFC when I went, I learned a lot and it made me better as an NCO now.

WLC 2007 Camp Shelby, MS.  A group was working late in the dayroom.  Everyone had left but me.  I was still finishing up a presentation.  After I finished, I opened the door to walk outside and down to the bay I was staying.  As I open the the door there is a skunk right outside the door.  I closed the door and thought, WTF am I going to do.  If I make a break for it and get sprayed, the instructors are going to make me pay dearly.  I waited a few minutes and cracked the door open.  I couldn't see the skunk.  This is my chance I thought to myself.  I only had to run about 15 yards to get to the bay door.  I opened the door a little further and still could not see the skunk.  I took my chance and ran the fastest 15 yards in my life.  I don't know if that skunk was still out there, but I did not get sprayed, and that all that matters.

FEB MAR 2012Camp Shelby, MS. We where the last class to be on lock down. It was interesting we had two SGT's leave and go out on the town the night before we all left. We had a formation at 0300. They had been caught at the bar off of camp. They where doing a integrity check to see if we would turn them in. They held there certificates, and failed them and called there chain of command! was a wild night!

I attended PLDC in 1993 at Baumholder, Germany. I think it was the old 2nd AD NCOA? I went from August to October, so I missed Oktoberfest that year. It was freezing cold and we only had hot water in the barracks for two days out of the thirty we were there. Eight guys were crammed in to a two man room, and we had so many students that we had to line up and walk through the shower spray to get wet, stop, soap up, about face, and walk back through the shower spray to rinse off. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been time for everybody to shower. We were enclosed in a razor-wire topped fence, and we could literally see the front of the PX and snack bar. Talk about torture!

I attended WLC in 2011, in Ft. Campbell, KY. It was the hottest part of summer and the A/C kept going out. The SGLs were so worried there would be heat casualties, that we spent 75% of the time(mostly during classroom instructions) in PT uniform.

Hmmmm PLDC in December 1998, Grafenwohr, Germany. It snowed 6 inches on the day of the APFT and we still ran, it was about 12 degrees outside and my lungs were on fire after that 2 miles....We had a field problem for like a week and even the SGL's were shivering and trying to stay warm. LOL.....good times.

I was also conditionally promoted to SGT in 2001 the day before we deployed to Kosovo, but didn't get to PLDC until well into 2002 at Fort lewis. Went to Aberdeen Proving Ground for BNCOC in 2007 and Fort Lee for SLC in 2010. Good Times!!

Last PLDC class on Fort Sill, 2006. Next cycle it changed to WLC, but they had already begun to make curriculum changes and things felt a bit rushed. I did learn a lot, but for my first NCOES I expected more focus on "how" to be a leader. It seemed like most of the training was geared on how to pass all the tests (field and classroom) in order to ensure maximum graduation.

July/August 1995, Grafenwohr, Germany. I broke out with a bad body rash in which I could not stop itching. They told me to see a dermatologist back at my unit. By the time I got back to Kaiserslautern, the rash was gone so there was nothing for the doctor to go by.

I was stationed in Hawaii. The NCOA in Hawaii was off post and down a pretty long road. There was a 12' fence all the way around the place. At first I thought it wasn't bad but after about a week or two- It seemed like prison. I was ready to go.

I went to WLC back in 2008 at the Fort Richardson NCO academy. I was supposed to attend Military mountaineering course at Black rapids that month, but when I came down for WLC I was told NCOES schools had priority.

I completed (PLDC) back in 1995 at Fort Bragg. It was a great course w/ the best SGL's, in my opinion, that offered a lot of experience, insight and leadership to my class. We did an ABN operation while there and loved it. Good times!!

I attended PLDC in Graffenwoehr, Germany from August 1996-September 1996. I did very well with all of the training and graduated as Honor Graduate. I was glad that academic score was 1st on list, as I had 98.5%. Had PT been the most important, this would not have transpired as such, LOL! It was incredible training and I have 0 % doubt about that was why I became a good NCO (some of my soldiers later told me I was "the best" or "among the best", but it all works for me! Thanks. I was a eager 19 year old SPC(P) when I attended PLDC at Fort Riley, KS. Back then it was over 30 days. We spend a lot of time learning about leadership. One of things that was silly was we had to hang the mobs outside to dry and we had to trim them daily to make sure they mop heads were even. Makes me laugh now, but have you ever tried to trim a wet mop head?

I attended PLDC in 1984 at the 7th Army NCO Academy at Flint Kaserne, Bad Toelz, Germany. We were told during the first formation that 20% of the class would not graduate. They were right.

We had to display locker with our clothes folded to specific and often inspected measurment. The bed was made and strapped underneat to the bed frame with blousing rubbers. If a TAC sergeant could pull up the blanket, he tore the bed apart. Everyone had to work as a team, because a Soldier did not have enough time to do everything themselves. I graduated the course and never went back to that old SS barracks.

PLDC at the 7th Army NCOA in 1984. We were told the very first formation that 20% of us would not graduate. The TAC was right. This was the best NCO course I ever attended. The NCO Academy was in an old WWII SS barracks. The center strip of each hallway was bright shiny black because of being hand shined with Kiwi shoe polish by the students We referred to this as the autobahn and nobody walked on it.

As for me, I volunteered for the latrine detail. Within the latrine there was a water drain grate that covered a brass pipe plug. We had to pull the grate and Brasso that damned plug every morning.

I attended in October of 1999 at Fort Lewis. I came from Fort Carson and this was the first time Soldiers went outside of III Corps NCO Academy because of the backlog of E-4s needing PLDC because of operations in Bosnia. They did not very much like 3rd ACR Soldiers to say the least..

I attended PLDC in Ft Richardson, AK in June of 2004. It was a great experience and made some life long friends. The best part of the entire school was watching half the class get lost on the land nav course. I can still remember the instructors sending all the scouts and infantry man out to find the lost students after the time allotment had ended for the course. Sadly, 5 students didn't pass due to getting lost between points and giving up.

On a kind of funny but not really side of my visit there, my end of course critique was filled with Preventive Medicine inspection observations that told of violations in the DFAC and sanitation standards at the training FOB.

I attended the first cycle of the "New" PLDC program at Schloss Kaserne, Butzbach Germany (3rd Armored Division NCOA) in Sept 1982. The POI had changed, but the amount of discipline was the same as the PNCOC course. I slept in a four man room, with daily inspections, room and wall locker dress right dress and prepared for inspection at all times.

Fort McCoy, WI. 2008 It was June and HOT and HUMID as hell. The classroom stuff was a breeze. The field portion of it however was pretty hardcore. We did a watered down version of the Q-course out in the field. It was one of the longest days of training I've ever had in the Army. We went from 0600-0001 that day. Not bad for an Army Reserve NCOES, I was impressed.

I went to PLDC September 2002 at Fort Drum, NY. I was conditionally promoted in Kosovo, so the pressure was on. Had a great time there, even though it was pretty intense. I would go again if I could.

I attended PLDC in 1986 and BNCOC in 1987 while a member of the Ohio Army National Guard. I attended at the Ohio Military Academy and ultimately became an instructor there before accepting a direct commission. It was tough leaving the NCO corps but becoming a commissioned officer only meant that I could take the 'Be, Know, Do' I learned as an NCO and factor it into my decisions as an officer. This might have made it tougher for the NCOs that served as my subordinates but I never got in their way and let them/ensured they performed NCO business.

Went to PLDC at Ft. Benning in 2002. It was worse than basic training. We stayed in the old barracks across from OCS for those of you who know where that is. Side stepping in the chow line with the tray out in front of you. No talking in the chow hall. Running to and from everywhere you went. We didn't get to leave on weekends but on Sunday's we were marched to haircuts or church if you wanted to go. Much different now days.

I attended PLDC at Fort Stewart in August of 2002. My favorite part was raking the pine needles every day.......and the cactus, the copperhead snakes, and the alligators. All in all, it was fun. I learned more about interpersonal dynamics at the team/squad level there than actually being a team leader in the MPs. We had all MOS there to include Ranger Regiment NCOs.

Primary Leaders Development Course (Not Weak Leaders Course) Camp Jackson Korea, Jan-Feb 2001. It snowed like Crazy/ Their was 18inch the night before we left and the roads were "Black" almost did not make it.

My SGL, an 11B, had the gall to tell us MPs could not maneuver. 15 Seconds into Bounding Overwatch he stopped us. We told him "Just because are smarter than Infantry and ride into battle does not mean we don't know what to due when we dismount" :)

A bit before the formal establishment of NCOES, I attended what was called BLT or Basic Leadership Training in 1973 at the Ft ORD, CA NCO Academy. I think because it was also a sandwich, it was changed to BLC (Course). It was a 2 week live in course. Pretty tough, but was focused in classroom training and very little practical exercises. I then attended the first iteration of NCOES, Basic, also in 1973, at Ft Lee, VA. That course was 4 weeks of academy and 8 weeks of MOS training.

Bragg '86.

Brought new soap for display/inspection. Gigged for "does not practice personal hygiene". Lol.

Army had just come out with boots that didnt shine. Me and other grunt were only two that had them (we bought just for pldc)...didnt have to stay up late shining our boots every night.

Good course. Learned about being an NCO. Thankful for instructors.

Last class of PNCOC I believe. Summer of 1984. After that it was all PLDC. No more separate leadership school for combat arms. Fort Indiantown Gap PA. Beautiful place, almost empty, a lot of weird wooden stockades that looked like they were from the 1870's, but freshly painted bright white. Found out years later that is where the Army held a huge mob of Cuban civilian and military prisoners captured in Grenada in Operation Urgent Fury.

I attended BLC (formerly WLC) at Camp Buehring. It was around the time that spring. Was ending and summer was coming in. Most of our training occurred early morning and nighttime. We had temperatures averaging 112 degrees a day, sandstorms with poor visibility, nothing but sand and rocks, random dogs, cats, camels and such wandering about. Our schedule rapidly changed due to the weather. There are firing ranges near by, and we’re close to the Iraqi border, so our days and nights were filled with the sweet sounds of gunfire and rounds going off. We marched everywhere we went. Our SGLs were some of he most informed and highest rated individuals there. And although they were tough, I’m proud to have had them push me through with an iron fist. I made commandants list and scored iron soldier.

I went to PLDC in September at Graffenwoehr, Germany in 1998, or maybe 99. My instructors were SSG Allen and SSG Coats; great Soldiers and Leaders. Land Navigation and the FTX were the best part. Fun times in MOPP4...
