Where are all the suppressors?

I know, I know service life and cost but seriously why aren't suppressors used in CQC?

They should be. It's probably cheaper than paying for tinnitus and such. Also it makes tactical sense.

There are requirements out and companies are working to put in bids. The Army is hoping to develop a "family" that would essentially be the same designs for all calibers used.

A thought- Suppressors work by deflecting or trapping escaping gases form the round. This normally slows the speed of the round down, affecting range and accuracy. Agree it would work wonders in clearing houses, but they are lousy for long shots.

The weapons in the pic have silencers on the two weapons. The way they make them now days it really doesn't effect the operation as much as they used to.

I had some of my old NCOs tell me they did get issued a handful of suppressors for doing night missions in Iraq in the 2006ish time frame as part of the Battle of Ramadi. Personally I think they would be a great addition to an individual soldier's firearm. The biggest hold up, I suspect, are from the bean counters who don't want to work the numbers to have an extra $1000 attached to a weapon when it is likely just going to gather dust.
