Where are areas to AVOID outside US military bases?

Every military base has 'that area' that is dangerous and crime-ridden. Where is that area outside posts you have been stationed? Victory Drive outside Ft. Benning?

First, the areas to be avoided by order of the commanding general or officer on any installation should located at the welcome center. This list is often known as the "black list". Some of these locations are social gathering places like clubs because of fights, STDs or places like "pay day now" that offer an early paycheck yet charge 60 percent up front. I would also add places like car lots for the inexperience car buyer. Those places will take a young service member to the cleaners and they will still come out dirty.

Sierra Hotel!
Back in the day Columbus was pretty tame.
Fayetteville was a whole 'nother ball of wax.
The River Walk in San Antonio was another place that was very good at separating GIs from their money.

Outside of FT Benjamin Harrison back in the day it was the OSI Outside Inn, you should never go there but it was always full of GI's, myself included. IT wasn't off limits but it had a pretty hungry clientele that would eat a GI up for their own benefit. Saw many a young GI's get swept off their feet into what resulted a money grubbing marriage and eventually divorce. Oh the good ole days LOL

Don't know if it is still there or not, but the Vacation Inn out side of FT. Campbell. Learned that one the hard way. Just came out of the field, was broke and wanted out of the Barracks. me and a buddy rented a room for 20 bucks. Was watching tv and left the door open. Lady of the night just strolled in flopped them out and said 20 dollars. After we kicked her a$$ out we locked the door!

Off-Limit Areas/Establishments, should there be any? | RallyPoint

I'm stationed in a relatively small post, our Off-Limit List is about just 5 Establishments (3 of them for selling Spice Tobacco and the other 2 for Unethical business practices). What surprised me is that one of them is where I did my car inspection last summer, one of this Gas stations with an auto shop in it. As adults that can make our own decisions, should there be actual "Off-Limits" Establishments?

It must be gone because the base is gone but there was a place called "The SNAFU Bar" just outside of Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. The 1stSgt warned us about it during his welcome message.

That looks like a fine establishment. It is a gentlemen's club and as an officer I am a gentleman.

But in all honestly the first think I did when I got to Bragg I pretty much avoided anything like the such in the city. Now Pirates in Spring Lake is another story.

When I first arrived at Ft. Carson in '88 there was a Gentlemen's Club, Puss-In-Boots that, while not on the Off-Limits list, was quickly pointed out to us youngsters as a place not to go, couple years later as a young CPL, one of the FNGs from our company, married one of the dancers, all "we" could do was shake our collective heads, did not last too long or end too well for young Soldier!! As I was leaving in '91 for Germany, Nevada Ave began to become a place that as a Soldier you wanted to avoid, lot of gang related violence and Soldier retaliation going on.

one place that was off limits neat Bragg was acapulco lake but a lot of people went to it. The 18th Airborne Corps did not like the Idea of people jumping off a 70ft rock cliff in to the water. It was a lot of fun!

This is most revealing. It is my firm policy never to respond to such questions lest I implicitly reveal the source of my knowledge. All I will say is that back in the days before political correctness there was a saying in the counterespionage business (Ft Meade, MD). "If you can't handle women you can't handle double agents; so go out and practice." At least that's what someone told me. There used to be a place called the Golden Flame in Odenton, MD I've heard about where America's top U.S. Army counterespionage operatives cut their teeth. One of those erstwhile operatives who frequented the Flame told the FBI they Had a mole ten years before they caught Hanson. He must have learned something there.

I remember when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in the 70s, the Marines sent out a msg naming the off-limit bar and we stayed away. When I was at Howard AFB in Panama as a civilian I found out the USAF not only told everyone the name of the off-limit place but provided a photo and directions to the place. I guess so the Airmen would be sure to avoid it. I always thanked them for providing directions to the best places in town.
