Interesting enough Eastern Washington's Spokane area is growing at a moderate pace with ever more tech and specialty stuff popping up. The economy takes a downturn as soon as you hit Idaho with the exception of health care. So all we're doing is advancing our retirement career but I have to figure out a way to make my deer hunts tougher because the two last year were in bedroom slippers. Same went for turkeys. Fishing is good although I don't do much of it. Lots of lakes up in Northern Idaho. And looking at a bright Milky Way at night is something to behold. CAPT Kevin B. Diverse climate ranging from coastal rain forest in Southeast to Arctic Tundra on the North Slope. Job opportunities vary according to location and personal inclination. Outdoor life and wildlife abounds. Fishing, hunting, winter sports, summer hiking and biking. Some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and most of it less than a 30 minute drive from downtown Anchorage or Fairbanks. Military bases with good facilities in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Anchorage schools are good; don't know about other places. Some villages are reachable only by water, aircraft, or snow machine in winter (if you're looking for remote). No income tax. If you're a resident you get a check from the state every year as a result of taxes collected on oil extraction. Overall cost of living is higher than average in lower 48.
