Bliss, TX. I was there on a MOB in '96 and '04 thru '06, thing didn't seam to be better in the area. With talk of the wall and NG MOB to assist... stay north of the city to avoid accidental/intentional "High Velocity Lead Poisoning". Sorry SGM but... I personally live in the East Side and love it. Traffic isn’t terrible and it’s growing at a decent rate. As long as you’re out of the house by 0540, traffic isn’t much much of a factor at all. Traffic on 54 isn't bad, and the houses were nice.

Whatever you do, don't live near Alameda street. If so, research schools.
- On Post would be good if you can get it, mostly new quarters.
- Have had Military Neighbors on either side of us on the West Side and Trans Mountain is about a 20 minute drive to Bliss as long as it does not ice over in the winter. One of these years they will finish the I-10 work and going around the mountain will be smoother.
- The NE is growing with new subdivisions but you have to get out on Dyer a ways to find newer housing. Lot of Military Retirees in the NE.
- Far East is also seeing a lot of expansion. Bueno Vista apartments was a nice place relatively inexpensive with one and two bedroom apartments. Try to find a place where your neighbors are mostly stay at home so they can watch your house and report break ins. El Paso has a huge crime problem with illegal Mexican's burglary of homes and cars. Franklin Mountain tourist drive through has several armed robberies every day. I had a drunk, unlicensed, uninsured Illegel smash into my wife's van. $1800.00 in damages while I was sitting at a gas station pumping gas. Cops handcuffed him and locked him in back of cop car. They breathalyzed him every hour and released him after two hours while I was still waiting for a tow truck. I filed a complaint against the officers for letting him go but no positive results. Desk SGT said they followed SOP releasing him as soon as he was legally sober. Walmart parking lot has 10 or more vehicle breakins every day. Even with security and cameras. Never leave anything in plain sight inside car or in home Windows worth stealing. They smash out your window, grab and run. Never get anything back so have good insurance. I recommend living on base if possible, crime is much less there because Illegels have tough time gaining access. Also remember look for "refrigerated air" if you ask for air-conditioning you get a swamp cooler. They suck. North East is about 15-20 minutes to post lots of amenities, safe, affordable nice homes with decent size yards. The West side is newer and more trendy but a little bit more expensive, it's about a 30 minute drive depending on traffic. It's close to UTEP. I live in the North East and love it. But as an officer at Bliss you may want to look into the on post housing, it's pretty nice.
