Where are the jobs promised to us Veterans?

Nothing is ever promised to You. Get that through your head now. With that being said get cracking on your education. Use your GI Bill (Post 9-11) as a means to stay afloat until you land a job. And don't hesitate to be a Wal-Mart Stocker. If it pays the bills so be it. And invest your money into a good stock or IRA. You're going to need it for the long haul.

I haven't gone longer than 4 months without a job since I got out of the Navy. I now make more base pay than I ever did as a Sailor. I did all this without a college degree.

Very, very sound advice. Many people forget that sometimes you have to do what you have to do to pay the bills until you can find a better job.

Sound advice. Like my momma always told me, "If you want something, you better get a job and earn it." Sadly, though, there are those that FEEL that everything should be handed to them........Soldiers and Civilians alike.

I love your upbeat attitude! I know many people, myself included, are trying to make sure Corporations stand by their commitment to hire Veterans. But with that being said, I think it's important that we NEVER become victims of circumstances or else we're beaten!

While there are lots of jobs out there, they are lower-paying and a little beneath the skill sets many currently possess in uniform.

Beware of the thought that possessing a Masters Degree will let you just walk into a job. I recently retired and despite having two Masters-level degrees it hasn't been a cake walk. Most people see those degrees as a "license to learn."

What is your dream and your passion? What are you doing to work towards those. There are a lot of businesses that are military friendly but you have to put in your homework and check them out if you know what you want to do and who or what you are going after be sure to go in prepared and looking sharp you will get noticed. Many times it is who you know also, ask others you know and network with people until you can get the introduction you need with the right people. When you put in the work before the interview you can sometimes start up a little higher in pay. Just remember when they start you at a higher pay grade that they expect to see results very quickly.

I am one frustrated jobless Veteran. I have been on USA.Gov and other sites for years and still..nothing!
