Turn in your leave form and go. It’s a 4187 to make you a secondary care giver to your spouse. The 4187 allows 21 days of paternity leave. You still need a leave form and on the reason you put care giver instead of paternity leave. My OPS had a format and you turn in discharge paperwork for baby and they handle the rest. We have a leave form for that. After reading through former sec. Espers directive about creating the 21 day paternity leave, I was not under the impression that taking the leave post directive would require the 4187 still. However, that was 4 months ago that I took the retroactive days, so that very well may be the new standard for taking paternity leave.

Army Directive 2019-05 (Army Military Parental Leave Program) dated 22 January 2019 is the memorandum you'll need to look up and it will spell out exactly who needs the 4187 as well as what needs to be in it. Make sure you read all of it.
