I am a vet and I am the Talent Acquisition Manager for Joerns Healthcare and my company is very eager to increase our veteran workforce... where can I find vets looking for work?

Department of Labor - VETS (Veterans Employment and Training Services) provides two grants annually to each state to provide veteran staff to assist specifically with veteran employment. They are DVOP (Disabled Veteran Opportunity Program) representatives who case manage disabled veterans as well as other veterans with barriers to employment and LVER (Local Veteran Employment Representatives) who do the business outreach to find or create jobs/careers for veterans. We are part of each state governments Workforce one-stop system which are called different things (WorkSource in Washington State) in different states. By federal rules we can only assist veterans and have access to our states unemployment databases allowing us the ability to search and communicate with unemployed veterans.

Contact every state's Workforce Division, or whatever it's called. They have specifically trained advisers and counselors to work with veterans looking for employment. That's where your employment advertisement will enter the conversation.

There are fantastic ideas from those who responded before me. There are so many different ways to target veterans, but the key is going to be location. Where are you and where are you trying to fill positions. I agree that you need to review the existing hiring groups that currently exist like Hiring our Heroes, vet group sponsored job fairs, targeting transition courses at military installations, and more. Do you have a vet focused hiring site? Have you considered reaching out to a veteran recruiter from a company that isn't competition so you can learn from their best practices?
