Where did you see yourself in the future when you joined the Military?

When you first enlisted/commissioned some odd years ago did you see your self in the position your in know or another path in your military career. What opportunities did you make and accept for you to become the service member you are today?

Honestly, I never knew where I would go when I enlisted, but I am glad at I'm at Hood. I was sent on a deployment and it was probably the best event that could take place because it set my down a path and got me the assignment I had wanted.

A battalion commander, but I have no regrets. I had a broad background from Aviation, Armor, Finance, National Disaster Preparedness and Response, Corps Budget, and Logistics. No regrets.

I was going to be the youngest Sergeant Major of the Army! I said it day one in basic. No help from the insurgent that blew up me and my chances in 08! Dick! Lol don't worry I'm a better person now. Lol

Never was a long term thinker. Probably never envisioned being a "Spook" for 21 years. Now rather proud of my History. My Recruiter didn't lie to me when he said I would get to play with more Radios than I could Imagine and the Antennas were not to be sneezed at either. When joined was gonna stay in one hitch then joined guard to get more money for college then after 10 years decided to stay in for the long haul, 26 years, not one single regret.

At first I had no idea and told myself I was going to try it out and if it didn't work out I would be out in four. After starting out as a private in the Marine Corps, deploying with the Navy after Sept 11th, crossing over to the Air Force, deploying to Iraq with the Army performing convoys, earning a commission, and now a Captain...no, I never could have seen it. It's been a great ride and I've had a great family to support me along the way.

I did not see myself where I currently am that's for sure. When I initially went through MEPS and agreed to join I had planned on being in Security Forces, like a nut I wanted to do it out at the missile fields but I had a reason for wanting to. Despite not doing what I had hoped I wouldn't give up the friends I have made in this career field for anything.

I NEVER thought I'd be a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, especially in my MOS. Points were high and I was surrounded by negativity.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received coming up in the ranks, was to keep my head down and just listen. Keep your head down, and do what's told of you. Listen to what your leaders are telling you; they're not just blowing smoke up your tail feathers. There is a method to be madness. Eventually, as you develop more, you'll understand why things are done the way they are.

I was going to be the guy from the Billy Joel song " he's talking with Davey, who's still in the Navy, and probably will be for life ". I had expected to be in for at least 20. Things change.

I joined in 2008 thinking I'd do my initial enlistment and get out. I didn't know how much I would enjoy the job.

All I wanted was Airborne, to serve one term, maybe make Sergeant, and then blend seamlessly back into civilian life. I've achieved only one of those so far lol.

I joined in wanting to Earn BTZ (early promotion to E4), making E5 quick, comissioning and ending my career after 20ish plus years. Got BTZ, was testing for staff a couple months later, went through a hard divorce, got into some trouble got demoted and no longer tested. So I went back to A1C and put on SrA again this october. But I really wouldn't change it, I learned a lot including who my real friends are and who really cares. I'm still gunning for that 20ish years just a but differently.
