If showing up in OCPs then you can just wait for your unit supply and NCOIC to get you squared away. Meaning you should save yourself some money and just wait until you get there. But....
My experience is that this has always been more theory than reality.

Your unit should have an official "lineage and honors" which includes a list of unit awards. This is USUALLY kept and maintained by the S1, but not always (some units appoint an official historian as en extra duty, which may be outside the S1). It can USUALLY be found on the unit's official webpage, if you look hard enough, but not always. But be careful! Some units have different awards for different companies. This is much rarer in Infantry units, than it is in support units (who get "sliced" out much more often) so you have LESS likelihood of it happening, but still be aware that your unit awards may depend on which specific Company you are assigned to. Which circles back around to... wait until you get to your unit. To actually get it you can ask supply but that depends on your supply. Absolutely try and get it from supply though, would suck to waste money on a unit award you have to remove after you get assigned to another unit. I would say ask any NCO, but my unit was a good example of not everyone tracking we had a MUC. Granted 80% of the people in the unit were relatively new to the unit.
