Where do spouses go after service member reclasses and goes to AIT? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/where-do-spouses-go-after-service-member-reclasses-and-goes-to-ait

My husband and I are stationed in Germany and he's trying to reclass to Diver. The guy at retention said that he would clear here first on his DEROs date, get a month of leave and then go to AIT. I believe it's two weeks in Ft. Leonardwood and then another twenty something weeks in Florida. The only thing is, they don't know where I go or our household goods. I have two large dogs so it makes this a little harder to ignore. If it is 20+ weeks then it is considered a PCS move and he is authorized to have you and his household goods shipped there to him. If not then you would only be authorized to ship to his home of record. That is what the military would pay for. Any move aside from that would be allowed but the only distance that would be covered free would be to his home of record... SSG Brian G. Your husband can call the AIT in Fl and ask how long the program is. You can’t plan without orders but you can find out if it is a PCS to Fl. Even if it is a PCS you have other options to consider. They can temp store your HHG instead of moving everything twice. Anyway, contact transportation. Only like 10-20% actually complete the entire course and most fail out within the first two weeks. If there is no assignment listed, it will go in storage until he receive assignment orders before he completes AIT. If the school is 180 days or longer, it’s considered a PCS move and the family is authorized at the AIT location. If the school is less than 180 days, the family isn’t authorized at the AIT location so it would be two of you decision on where you’ll remain upon completion of school, which is why they may have told you they don’t know. My spouse stayed with family when I went to school enroute. Unfortunately if you’re not authorized at the TDY location, no additional entitlement will be provided other than the BAH and Separate Rations he’s receiving. He won’t be entitled to COLA or OHA anymore once he departs Germany.
When coming from overseas, service members receive in-transient BAH which is somewhere between $750-$950 (I can’t remember the exact).
Have you spouse to talk with his leadership and with Personnel Division so they can assist. I hope this provides some clarity for you. Good luck to you.... SFC Private RallyPoint Member Thu, 13 Aug 2020 12:11:19 -0400 2020-08-13T12:11:19-04:00 2020-08-13T04:12:37-04:00
