Where do the great ideas come from within your organization? Does the culture in your organization welcome new innovative ideas from all service members or employees?

Who is responsible for for setting the proper atomosphere for idea development wihin your organization?

How important are new ideas to the continued growth and positive climate of your organization?

Thanks COL Mikel J. Burroughs. Great ideas can come from within the organization or be driven from outside the organization.
One of the basic issues is the purpose of the organization. If it is internally focused then great ideas should come from within.
If the organization focuses on helping organizations outside of itself great ideas can and should come from within and outside the organization especially from clients that have been supported by it for some time.

I kid, I kid. In all seriousness, I am fortunate to be a part of my current unit as we have a lot of critical, and forward thinkers. Their approach is definitely outside the box and there is no one particular person who brings new and innovative ideas forward. Every circumstance brings forward a different light bulb, which is what I love. Because it shows a varied passion for what we do, but all ideas presented lie within the best interest of the members and the organization as a whole.

I would think great ideas cone from every corner of the organization. Everyone in the unit is a teacher and have had experiences noone else have had

Best come from the bottom up. Even when tasked to do something it's always best to ask those who will be doing before implementing when possible

COL Mikel J. Burroughs sir, when I worked, great ideas came from all members of the organization. From the CEO down to the lowest manager, they were responsible to ensure that everyone was encouraged to submit their ideas.

they come from people who are allowed to think of ideas they know will be discussed, or at least not mocked (if they are non-traditional). A person who generates ideas should be recognized as a person who is reaching for solutions, even if their ideas are not always realistic.

In the current organization that I am in, great ideas come from everyone. We are a very open group and we are usually told not to keep it to ourselves and to always better the organization.

While I was serving? Well sh*t rolls downhill.

Sometimes from mentors. I was Fort Hood Single Soldiers day 2000 OIC and we implemented a plan to park 6000 cars. My mentor told me to look at the terrain as an engagement area and it clicked.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs I think my current org was stifled for such a long time that ideas were never brought forward and critical thinking was stymied. We had some very good strong NCOs when I came over and one of the things we had to do first is reset the process and show people we cared. It took a while before the group bought into the system change. We still have several that are worried their ideas will be considered weak or are afraid to share. We have changed our self inspection process over the last two years and this is an area that fresh ideas and critical thinking help in root cause analysis as well as problem solving. No one person is responsible for this change- it is on each member. The climate for change however is on my senior leadership team starting with my commander and myself. This is but an example, but begins a change from one process to the next resulting in things ranging from better customer service to overall group morale.

i 'm retired work in a factory, they have no idea about my military experience and my capabillities, the train keeps coming around, and they just dont get it, without proper training, the same mistakes will happen, numbers , numbers and more numbers, is what they see, but quality and safety are set to the side, slow is smooth, smooth is fast they ain't gettin it

All new ideas are discussed amongst all leaders here and then decided on the best course of action.
