I would not discount eastern Europe. Russia (Putin) is working hard to restart the Cold War and many former Soviet satellites are Nato members. As the Russian Bear tries to re-assimilate their former vassal states there is strong potential for the whole thing to blow up.

I personally do not think we will ever approach WWIII. We will continue to have skirmishes such as they are around the globe. We will continue to bog down in the mire we create as we think winning hearts and minds like the glory days is how to win. The problem at hand is not everyone values what we value. Not everyone yearns for freedom despite what they teach us in PME. Culture, language, stereotype, greed and power will always limit several third world nations. Very few areas are tangled enough to cause an all out world war. The biggest threat of an all out world war is a NATO article 5 infringement. A world war would have to involve USA, Russia, China, Germany, and UK at minimum. So where do all these powers have friction points? I would think Eastern Europe. All others are just regional.

With the current world situation I don't see a WORLD WAR in the future, at worst a number of small wars that could ignite into larger issues if Dirty nukes or BIO weapons are used. What I do see however is an example being made out of anyone that goes that route with a great deal of collateral damage to their populations. Keeping in mind this is only if the Alien overlords don't invade us and uses us as a fast food source.

What constitutes a "world war"? Does it involve someone trying to conquer and take other countries by force. Or is it just determined by the total number of militaries involved? If so, how many?

I think WWIII has already been defined as a nuclear war in which no one really wins as we're all knocked back to the 1800's. So unless that happens, I don't think we'll have a WWIII. We may have a really big war, but it'll be called something else.

When WWIII erupts it will potentially be closer to WWII with an axis of evil than WWI which was the result of complicated alliances which drew nations together.
Your choices CPT Gurinder (Gene) Rana are limited to south and east Asia most likely because a significant portion of the world's population is located there.
You didn't offer other or none of the above, unfortunately.
Certainly a regional war is possible
1. because of oil and mineral deposits in the south China Sea.

WWIII will most likely erupt in the Middle East with southwest Asia, northern Africa and the former-Soviet stans [Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan] being drawn in initially. The waterways of the Persian Gulf and the Suez Canal are vulnerable to cutting off oil.
The intrinsic animosity of Shia to Sunni has made that area vulnerable for many centuries.
Egypt has been a stabilizing influence while its neighbors Ethiopia and Sudan have been boiling pots for radicalized Islam in recent decades. South Sudan is volatile.
The Arab winter destabilized many of the more stable nation-states in north Africa as well as Syria to an extent.
The US and USSR may potentially be allied against Turkey and much of western Europe in this potential conflict - I would expect UK and Australia to be on our side in this effort as well as Israel which the Muslim-dominant nations consider to be a pernicious thorn.
I am picking DRRK not because I think it will be a global issue but because it is the least unlikely of your choices.

We are already in WWIII. The Battle of Tel Hai, March 1, 1920 was the opening battle. The forced break up of the Ottoman Empire after WWI left a power vacuum. The Western powers, specifically France and Britain dropped the ball in the Levant and surrounding territories. The historic enmity between Middle Eastern Jewish populations and Arab/Bedouin populations sparked. Over time that conflict has touched every continent except Antarctica.

I don't believe a world war is extremely likely, but there are a number of conflicts that might spill into something bigger. There are 3 main flash points in the world. 1. The DPRK. I think the regime will collapse on itself in the next 50 years. The potential conflict will be over racing to collect their weapons before they reach the black market.
2. South China Sea. There are several competing claims to the sea and China is actively building islands to claim exclusive economic rights to their "traditional Chinese waters". I don't see this happening because China is dependent on trade with the west to survive. It might just end with small boarder skirmishes that never escalate to open conflict.
3. The middle East. The kingdom of Saud and Iranian Republic are in a cold war over regional control. It could spark open conflict if one side or the other thinks they can win. Of all the potential hotspots, this one is the most likely to escalate to a world war. I do think that the 5 permanent members of the UN security council have a vested interest in quashing any conflict before it gets too large. This makes me think a world war would still be unlikely.

It appears, the world system desires 10 economic regions. I think a major event will occur like the Yellowstone Caldera will erupt bringing a global crisis through economics. At the same time an artificial crisis will be implemented to achieve global government.
There are several doctoral level arguments on this subject. If it is going to happen, I hope it happens sooner rather than later. I'm not getting any younger and it would be better for me that it happens while I can still do a set of 10 with 255lbs.

I voted for North Korea because personally I believe Dear Leader is a bit more unhinged than Dear Daddy. I think they're the only Nation I would consider a Wild Card. Too unpredictable and it's hard to gauge what would set him off. If WW3 happens, I believe it'll involve them probably attacking allies and enemies alike until we unite to unite Korea.

An interesting question. If we view, World War, in it's historical context, one allied group of nations in conflict against another group of allied nations, being fought not only within the two allied groups national borders but also involving nations that have not declared war, or have expressed neutrality, then in my opinion this scenario is unlikely. Of the nations the have the ability to orchestrate this type of scenario, U.S.A, Russian Federation, China, The E.U., none would see it in their interest to bring this action into play. The knock on social upheaval would create a chaos like the world has never known, would be long to, if ever, recover from.

What is likely is a continued involvement, by U.S., Russian Fed, NATO/EU, in regional conflicts, backing nations either trying to maintain control within their own borders, or exert their influence regionally whose success in the national interest.

I'm brand new to the military and obviously I don't have an adequate amount of experience to bring to the table for informed decisions but based on choices of previous nations before here is what I can expect.

North Korea cannot and will not wage another war for a great deal because all it does is hinder their progress Economically, Socially and Militarilly speaking. They can't afford it as much of their own people are dying from Starvation and lack of Medicine. Any aggression from their front would almost be certain doom with any organized nation. China stands at the same point as Russia at this point. They are both expansive countries that have acted aggressively in the past and with little regard to the citizens in the various Countries, settlements and even remote regions just for resource material. If anything kicks off another world war it will be lack of resources, seeing as China and Russia's population are booming. Russia is already trying to pick another fight with a few countries in the European region as they've sent troops and armor into Ukraine in the past as well as Czechoslavkia and Its run ins with Russia. I expect Putin to make moves for annexing Countries eventually at some point as well. How well it is received is dependent on how they go about it. Diplomatically is fine but agressive arms against other nations to obtain resources is ignorant and should not be tolerated. That might be a tipping point. Alas, It's just a Observation.

I am thinking more along the lines that it will stem from an incident, or, incidents that may happen in Syria. With so many heavy hitters in the area, and Iran being the shit stir it is, it would not surprise me that escalation of contact between US led forces and Russian led forces, clash. Then there is always factions over there that want to see Israel destroyed. That would bring a major shift in support for war. I know MANY Veterans that would board the next flight out to throw in with the IDF. Similar to what happened in WW I and WW II, the US drug its feet in entering the wars, many Americans went anyway. Israel has a large following in America and many other countries. A surge of a couple hundred thousand foreign fighters flooding in to support Israel would force their origin countries to make a decision on whether or not to declare.

The one we really need to worry about is an EMP, solar flare or attack on our electrical grid. WWIII might be here at home. Read the congressional report on EMP attack. 90% fatality rate in one year. As great as our military is, we are not adequately prepared for such an event. The enemy just has to wait 12 months after the attack and roll right in with little resistance. The only thing that could level the playing field is us launching a global EMP attack in response. That way the whole planet will be back in the 17th century not just us.

I personally feel that WW3 will start on the Korean peninsula. But I think that it will start as a tragic accident. DPRK will test one of their missiles that will go awry and will land in South Korea. They will feel that because of all of Kim Jong Un's threats, South Korea will assume that it was a direct attack and will respond accordingly. I do not see a WW III scenario, but I do see a regression into the “ cold war” of the XX century, with the addition of China as an international player.
Also we must take in consideration, the Islamization of Europe, in some European countries the Moslem population is reaching the 30% mark, after passing this treshold, such a country will be transform as part of the “ Uma “ ( the caliphate) by democratic means, creating a situation were other European countries will not be able to tolerate.
In other words, i see regional proxi conflicts to continue and probably expand and a very bleak future for the world economies.
I do pray that no hot headed entity will try the nuclear option, because then... well i don’t think i have to explaint the outcome.

I would say Europe...again. The unchecked immigration policies has had a seriously destabilizing effect on the region. Anger against Hungary and Poland and the Brexit issue has created more political and economic issues than the region seems capable of handling properly. The others bear watching, but the disparity between EU nations is something I keep a close eye on. They couldn't figure out how to avoid it the first time, utterly failed to foresee and prevent it the second time, and seem incapable of learning from past mistakes heading in that direction again to me.

China has announced its intent to become a regional, then dominant world power. It is modernizing its naval forces and "building" advance bases. As it works toward its objective, it will trespass into areas and trade relations guarded by many nations, causing alliances to halt its advancement. Western nations will be drawn in by their own treaties and interests in the area.
World War is a modern moniker and relative to communications and advancement of cultures into organized nations with communications to other nations. There were "world wars" prior to our I and II and there will be wars that involve the majority of "civilized" nations in the future.

It will start in the same place all world wars seem to start.... the Balkans. the place we tend to forget about until we are unable to forget. Where hatred have been on the rise, and more will come as time drags items to light. How many NATO countries are there now - and what happens if Serbia decides to act -- again?

I'm tuned to my own channel more or less, so I'll order off the menu and say -> Transcaucasus region (essentially, the Caspian Sea scenario but for reals). Iran and/or Russia as the primary aggressors, but the possibility for just about anybody in the region (including non-state actors) to actually instigate it (and quite possibly unintentionally). I think it would draw in the global military powers by way of security commitments and the need to maintain credibility and it would get to world war by way of assuming the other side is bluffing and finding out too late that they're not.

We are already engaged in World War III, I think. War has changed. We probably won't see the kind of large-scale combat operations we saw in earlier world wars. We will instead be "fighting" to the "left of bang", in the so-called "Competition Phase". We'll be fighting in Space, Cyber and Information Warfare domains, as well as in special operations campaigns that may not even be called warfare.

There are a few scenarios that could result in large-scale combat operations, and they involve Russia, China, Iran and to a lesser probability now, North Korea. Russia and China may over-step the bounds of accepted international behavior. Russia under Vlad Putin may invade the Baltic Republics or move further into Ukraine to try to prove they are still a relevant great power. The Chinese Communist Party under Xi Jinping may further threaten their regional neighbors to push us out of Asia and continue their desperate efforts to feed and control a fracturing China. And Iran's aging religious leaders, more unattached daily to their youthful population, may attack Israel or the West to try to advance their Shia death-cult before Saudi Arabia's Sunni Renaissance makes them even more irrelevant and isolated from the rest of the Islamic world.

We will always be in some kind of conflict in the Middle East, they have been fighting since BC and with fight until the world ends. Terrorism is not going away and we even have Americans now buying into the tricks and trades of terrorism as well.

Ukraine and Russia will eventually get chaotic enough to pull America and Poland in. Our fight against the Islamic State will pick up in Africa, and once Iran and Israel really go at it WW3 is on.

If a war starts it will probably begin in the middle east as that is a major powder keg waiting to explode as is China and Russia. I do not believe we will see a WWIII as no one would gain anything from it. There will be many conflicts though out the world and we will be called to assist one side or the other. What we as Americans have to understand is not everyone wants what we have or can manage what we have. Even we are having a hard time doing this at this time. We have to recognize the fact that some people do not care about what type of government they live under we learned this in Viet Nam as the farmers really didn't care they just wanted to grow crops, raise families and some had no concept of money. We can support countries that want to create a democratic republic like ours otherwise we should but out of their politics.

If WWIII were to erupt, it will probably happen in the South China Sea. It won't be because China is an Empire or a Communist Dictatorship of the Proletariat or because such as that are unacceptable to the New World Order but because of something much more basic, the real root cause of ALL wars since the beginning of time: money=power. If China is foolish enough to even threaten to close off the trade route, there will be war. How big a war will be up to them.

It has already started, by the time our allies, the Chinese and Russians wake up . We will suffer a lot of damage, evil will always flourish when good people do nothing.....As for the start that's simple history will repeat itself , a civilian cruise ship with Americans on board will be attacked and sunk . The Chinese or the Russians will take the blame for an accident countries will choose sides , enemies will become friends. Friend's will become enemies. And the bloodshed will begin...

It will only be WWIII for the US like the last one. Most likely start in Middle East where we will get drawn into one of the Arab civil/sectarian conflicts that escalate. Russia or China will take advantage at the correct moment and attach Formosa or Eastern Europe, respectively. At some point after that whichever one did not previously commit will then do so. We will then be committed to a three front war that we're not prepared for. North Korea is a loose cannon that both Russia and China are afraid of because DPRK will attempt to start something that neither are ready for and will contain N Korea. Russia is opportunistic, China is the planner and the Middle East are the fanatics.

Wars of Assimilation began in the early 1960's. Since that day forward we have been able to bypass the War Powers Act and will continue on that path ad infinitum. Were there ever a possibility of privatizing the VA we will have then come full circle to monetizing War. When disabilities are a profit center, we have reached the bottom of the morality ladder.

I'm going with China. I think it might be some time before it happens however team Russia (Iran, Syria) and team China (P'Stan and NK) will be the new axis of evil in WWIII. Battle space will be ME and South Pacific.
