Where do you go on vacations?

It came up on on the Tax Return thread, about going on vacations.

Back when I was in, I'd head back to the family for 3-4 days, or just hang out in the barracks/house for a week to burn off leave.

Now days I head down to DisneyWorld and run Marathons. What does everyone else do to blow off Steam?

I go to Northern Michigan in the woods and just chill watching the wind blow thru the trees and play with the chipmunks! A version of camping.

I take a couple weeks and head to Portugal. Got a VN vet friend living there. No customers, horses or plans. Just take the days as they come. Some good food, do some work around his place, cut a little fire wood and relax. There's a great view from John's place of the valley. Evening are spent watch his TV (the fire place) and we converse with Jack or Jim (I'm guessing most of you know these two find gentlemen).

A cabin in the moutains of N. Georgia, NC, Tenn; This past summer to did the condo on the beach at Hilton Head Island, SC; also enjoy Charleston and St. Augustine, FL. One of my favorites and higly recommend is Mt. Rushmore, SD during the week of 4th of July. There is no charge to Veterans/Retirees to see Mt. Rushmore or any of the National Parks sites in that area.

Vacations? Hmmm, since I am sitting on 75 days of leave, it should be obvious that I don't take to many of those. I am looking forward to my transition from military to civilian life, as my family and I are going to take our time and drive across the country to our final destination. Stops at Glacier National Park, Mt. Rushmore, etc., etc. No rush, just enjoy the trip and family!

My wife and I usually go to Charlotte for the Coke 600 each year camping at the track. This is an adults only vacation as I and her are firm believers you need a break from your kids every once in awhile.

Hawaii is where I love to go not only have i been stationed there numerous times but it's close for my wife's family to come from because it's only a 8 1/2 hour flight. If you have never stayed at Pokai bay then I would recommend it. The price is very Military friendly (goes by rank) also the dolphins come right up to the bay
