North on the 5 to the 74 "Ortega Highway". Very hot, upwards of 100 as we wound our way to Hells Kitchen, where we stopped for libation. Continued East to Elsinore to hook up with the 15 South. Shot over the 79 towards Aguanga and continued the back side of Palomar Mountain, where we started getting 40 MPH crosswinds. Rounded Henshaw onto the 76 with a stop at the Hideout Saloon for lunch and more libation. Continued West on the 76 and ran smack into very large thunder storm cell. We had to pull over into a state picnic ground and wait for the cell to pass so we could see the road again. Rain lessened and we headed west into Pala passing the casino. Back to 100 degree weather. Hooked a left on Couser Canyon Rd. (best riding road in North San Diego County). Followed this out to to Lilac and headed south hitching right onto West Lilac. If you want a road with curves, this is a 10 MPH road because of the curves. Turned left onto Circle R Road to bring us back to Gopher Canyon Road and on to Prohibition Brewery for dinner and libation. Great ride day with good friends, the spirit has been lifted. Sometimes the best rides for me is when I hit a small side road and just keep making random turns (sometimes even hoping to get lost in the process). Less traffic, less distractions, just the road, the wind, and the scenery.
I've never actually been lost though (at least not for long) given that in this part of the country, you are never far from a main road.
Remember, it's not the destination, it's the journey! It is a great way to unwind.
