Where is the best food in San Antonio?

So I head to ALC at San Antonio in about a month, and I haven't been in the area in a few years now. Where are the best spots for a good meal and a cold drink?

Gramaldi's has amazing brick oven pizza. The HofBraü serves every kind of margarita you can think of, you're lucky if it's not a line around the corner. The Magnolia Pancakehouse is nice. If you're downtown you can hit Texas de Brasi or the Saltgrass Steakhousel. I didn't want to list any Mexican or tex-mex, everyone has different tastes and SA has tons of them to choose from.

If you like good beer and a great burger, head to the River Walk and find a british pub joint called mad dogs. Order the braveheart burger and a beer.

Burgers I recommend Chucky's off of Callahan. Alamo Cafe is good, big Lou Pizza is good as well. If you like a little fun The Magic Time Machine especially if you have kids

Avoid anything inside 410. The river walk will be twice to three times the price of anything you can get anywhere else. Born and raised in San Antonio.

If you want a really great meal try Texas De Brazil steakhouse at 313 E Houston St. It will run you about $45 a person (plus drinks), but the food is amazing, and they just keep bringing it until you can't take any more.

My favorites are Dough Pizzeria Napoletana, The Quarry Hofbrau & Beer Garden, and down on the RiverWalk the Iron Cactus for margaritas and Tex-Mex.

I've been here since 1986 and I'm still finding good places that I haven't tried yet. All the answers you have received so far are great, but that just scratches the surface. Check out UrbanSpoon.com and you can filter them by what interests you! (But be sure to try Rudy's Barbecue - great food and super military-friendly...)

If you haven't been to Big Lou's Pizza, stop by there. Order the biggest one you can with about 10 people. Do that just because you can.

Other than that, find the hole in the wall joints. El Sabristo in Converse is a great Mexican place with really good prices.

Also, stop by VFW Post 76, the oldest in Texas. It's on the river walk, free parking, and the Vets have great stories to tell you.

Rudy's BBQ off of 151 access road and Wiseman Blvd.

Also go up to the Shops at La Cantera and eat at Whiskey Cake, awesome food and all of it locally farmed. The chicken and waffles are amazing!

Rosarios. The tacos norte are legit. I travel to San Antonio once a month. It's close enough to the "touristy areas" to get a glimpse of that scene, bu just far enough away to not get mauled by prices. If you miss it while you are in the city, they have a satellite location in the airport (not as good but still great). The margaritas are on point.
