Waking in the morning, it had poured down rain without waking me, but the runoff had run in my poncho at the head and out my feet. Standing up, I was half wet and half dry from head to toe.

Later...I would regularly sleep in the gypsy rack hanging off the tank turrets rear (bustle rack to you army) on top of boxed ammo for the .30 and .50 with a live squawk box next to my head monitoring 3 channels. The rest of the crew had xenon light missions to run every watch so four times a night; start the engine, under my head, traverse the turret with the usual hydraulic whines and operational racket of a M48 rumbling and swinging me back and forth over the engine compartment. Always slept right through it unless some asshole ten miles away let off a couple AK rounds. The 1st was on the face of a cliff in Korea, we were doing some kind of movement/march and wound up going right up the face of this mountain. You couldnt stand up with your Gear or face being a target for mean ole gravity, so we had to basically crawl and grab onto anything we could find to keep us planted. Then out of no where...way up on this face... The CO says we are making camp for the night. There were thin trees growing out and up so many of us took 550 chord and spiderwebbed a hammock like "THING" and tied our gear and ourselves off and went to sleep. The other one was in Germany while "in the box". We were all in M113's and I had fallen asleep after something like 32 hours of being awake.
