Veterans were outraged, e.g. http://wpik.org/Src/NYT/19620120.pdf http://wpik.org/Src/SMH/19620818p7.pdf http://wpik.org/Src/SMH/19620821p2a.pdf
And Kennedy had resisted the scheme for twelve months but he was under influence of the cabinet that Robert Lovett had told him to appoint including Lovett's close friend Bundy to run the NSC and it was Bundy via the NSC that was pushing the scheme to prevent independence/self-determination by Papua's black population. Lovett and the Rockefellers wanted Papua's gold & other mineral wealth. the world's largest gold and copper mines. And to loot a colony yo have to stop anyone sending reports to the UN that disapproves of looting a colony while it's under foreign subjugation. The only way to stop those reports was to force the Dutch to sign a trusteeship agreement ("New York Agreement") that invited the UN Secretary General to violate the UN Charter by making his own private reports instead of allowing the UN Trusteeship Council to perform its legal duties.
Lovett was too powerful for the President to resist. Eisenhower warned America by calling Lovett a web or "military industrial complex" of undue influence four weeks after Lovett had told JFK who to appoint as his cabinet. This is the same guy who was handling the Nazi Party banking during WW-ii and when the gov't found out they had to find a scape goat so Prescott Bush took the blame in exchange for future reward.

West Papua New Guineans are being tortured, killed, and jailed by the Indonesian police and the government. WTF is the indignation?

The UN is watching as Indonesia is raping, pillaging, jailing, killing, and torturing those from West Papua New Guinea. It is very sad to watch, similar to our Native Americans when the public and government wanted their lands. Some villages are all but gone as they had a challenge of assimilation. We talk about endangered animals, what about endangered people?
