I'm looking for lists of apartment names, cities, or websites to look at housing. Thanks! If your going to live off post be aware of the commute it can be brutal Response by SFC James Rigdon made Jun 4 at 2014 3:44 AM 2014-06-04T03:44:50-04:00 2014-06-04T03:44:50-04:00 SSgt Private RallyPoint Member 167308

Be careful with on post housing at Schofield. Especially for some of the lower enlistees. I worked on literally every corner of the base and saw every single house on post up close including the generals houses. It appeared to me that E1's to E4's were stuck in some really crappy houses and I would not be caught dead living there. The newer housing SFC Rigdon is referring too appeared to be more for NCO's and officers. I dunno, just be careful with what you choose on base. If you can, avoid the housing off McMehon and Akolea rd. over in that general area appeared to be the worst housing. If you can find something on Kolekole Ave those are the fairly new houses. Still some in bad shape, the Hawaiian humidity takes its toll.

I'd also suggest you stay away from the town of Wahiawa. It's not a great town. Even though it might seem appealing being right outside base.

Mililani isn't a bad place to look into, and I think Pearl City is far enough away from Honolulu you shouldn't have to worry too much about traffic. Keep in mind Honolulu has the worst traffic in the entire country.

If you're looking for something more exotic, Haliewa is great, but expensive! If you live anywhere off base you'll see a nice drop in your bank account!

Good luck and if you have any questions about specific areas of the base I might be able to help. I can't answer any administrative or logistics questions, but I know every corner of the base like the back of my hand! They are very close to Schofield Barracks so you won't have to drive far. However, I will warn you that traffic is one of the worst in the U.S. because that a lot of people living on this island. I don't know if you have any kids or anything but if you did stay on post I would recommend that you stay either on Schofield Barracks or Wheeler Army Airfield because they are building new housing as we speak and the new housing you can't beat because you won't be able to find 3 bedroom with a backyard and garage for less than 2000. I believe you will make the best choice for you when the time comes. Enjoy Hawaii while you can it maybe an island but there is so much to do to make up for it Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 7 at 2014 10:47 PM 2014-08-07T22:47:54-04:00 2014-08-07T22:47:54-04:00 SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member 206356

I live in mililani mauka....if u live in mililani try not to choose mililani town.....ewa beach is also great...a little longer drive but it's worth it. I'm headed to Schofield next year and was wondering about off post housing.
