We did mostly law enforcement tasks including specialties like SWAT/SRT, VIP Protection, etc. I'm trying to find the same as an Officer as the Navy doesn't have an MOS (NOC) for such a position. Most states are letting civilian applicants forego academy if you've been through military police academy. MO allows you to simply take the P.O.S.T. exam. However, the state does not currently reciprocate the license from federal to statutory.
Security Forces frequently go out on patrol with Army squads at foreign bases. All E-4 and above in the USCG are federal law enforcement officers. We need no stinkin' badges. I helped put a lot of people behind bars without a shield or any bling. I wore dirty coveralls with no sign of my rank during boardings.

Even though the legal authority exists, not all are actively involved in LE. There are steps one must take to become a boarding officer or carry out other LE duties. USCG petty officers and commissioned officers can also work Shore Patrol assignments. MP Officer is the closest thing to MA in the Army (my son is MA1 now), but if you are trying to stay doing real law enforcement, you won't see a lot of that after you promote to O3 Captain. Upper level Law Enforcement in the Army is largely done by Warrants. MA isn't one of the Feeder MOS's to CID, but you have a lot of additional educations and experience that might make that a moot point.
BTW, a bit of a correction, you can get an age waiver as prior service as long as you can still do your 20 by age 55 and have less that 10 years enlisted.
