Which duty station has better units for a 68W, Baumholder or Ansbach?

I’m stuck between the two duty stations and I’m not sure which one would be better off for me unit wise.

Choose Ansbach. It is closer to larger cities. Baumholder is mainly a training area and there is not a lot to do there in my opinion. Frankfurt and Nuremburg are a close train ride away, and the beer is better in that area! LOl!

Wasn't assigned to Baumholder, but I had visited it a few times. I was not a fan.

Baumholder was the last place one wanted to be in the 1980s. Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahlmer was stationed there, so it might be haunted.
I spent 7 years on Wiesbaden Air Base. Wonderful Wiesbaden.

I was stationed back in Germany and we shut down baumholder for 10SFG to move in back in 2012. But I would not want to be stationed there again.

I believe Ansbach May prove a better duty station.

I agree with the consensus, choose Ansbach. I was there from '08-'10. Good times, great people, loved the locals and their seasonal fests. I was with the 5-158 (gone now last I heard) and the work life was enjoyable. Of all the little spots to work, Anbsach seemed to be the favorite among my peer group. I lucked out in getting it. The aid station was nothing special, but that was years ago.

I have a fond memory of several of us young guys going out drinking during a particularly bad snowstorm one night, as one does, and getting into a random snowball fight with two locals who were also drunk and roaming the town (they started it!).

Baumholder was my very first assignment. I loved it. Lots of fond memories. It was bustling when I was stationed in Baumholder and had over 20,000 personnel. Kind of a ghost town these days. However, any duty assignment can be great if you have personal transportation. I've never been to Ansbach, I cannot speak about it. A duty assignment is what you make of it. And yes, Jeffery Dahmer was a 68W stationed in Baumholder. They showed us the area he worked in during inprocessing.

I was in Baumholder and loved it. However, I was not a 68W.

I can’t give you much advice going solely MOS based, however I’d recommend you go with Ansbach. Baumholder these days is a very small post, with very little to do. It’s rare to hear anything good from any of the companies there that are under my Battalion. Ansbach has a decent location, and is much closer to things than Baumholder is.

Baumholder it's like the Fort Leonardwood of Germany. There's nothing there! Start away if you have a choice!

I was stationed in Baumholder and really liked it there. They had a really nice clinic and if you have a passport, you can go to France and other locations.
