Each has its own positives and negatives. In either one you will train and deploy. I would look for a culture that your wife and children might enjoy. Look at schools, activities they enjoy and the proximity of travel. If you have a choice let your wife make it.

Write down what you want from the school system and take into consideration that your spouse may want to work. Research each area to include the surrounding areas and see which checks the most boxes. The optempo at each base will go up and down because that is life in the military. Goodluck.

And I&#39;ve known some guys to wait up to six months to get a house, and some get it the day they arrive. Parts of Killeen are pretty rough, some parts are very nice. As an infantryman you&#39;ll most likely go to 3CR, they deployed every other year until this year. The installation like every place is what you make of it. You have Austin, Dallis and Houston not too far away, the Gulf is about four hours away, Temple and Harker Heights are some nice places close by. Lot of fun places to go, lot of good places to eat.

So many oportunities for my children on post we cannot do them all. The shooting is great, camping in the mountains in NM wonderful, and the only thing I am not really doing is hunting. School system Far East sucks.

The arrea has changed a bunch sinceI was stationed there. Note sure about gov&#39;t quarters, but usually available off post. Facilities are great and Lake Belton is close if ya fish.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>You might want to go back to JBLM I was there from 1974 through 1978 and 1986 1988 and at that time it was called FT Lewis and Mcchord AFB. I was discharged in 1990 and spent 16.5 years in the Army and I truly miss it alot but now I&#39;m working at Boeing company in Everett Washington where I worked on the 777 aircraft got hurt several times after my injuries I changed jobs and now I issue out tools to mechanic&#39;s been doing it for 4 years told time that I been with the company it will be 9 years in may. I am planning on retiring 10 November 2022.
