Which duty would be better, Fort Campbell or Fort Stewart?

I have been thinking lately about which base to PCS to.
I am a 13B so i would be attached to a artillery unit.
My choices are Fort Stewart Georgia, will be apart of the 3rd ID Divarty
Fort Campbell, Kentucky 101st Divarty
I would like to know any experience with the 2 to help me make my decision.
The Good the bad and the ugly...

having been to Fort Stewart, don't go there.
I hear nothing but great things about Campbell and like Drum, I have yet to work for or with any bad soldiers from said duty stations.

It truly comes down to whether you want to be light or heavy Artillery. Both areas are comparable in that they are adjacent to small towns and and hour or so from a larger town. Both have a great military history. Firt Stewart is much closer to the Ocean and a hop to Fla. it does come with mousquitos and sand flies and nats. Thank you for your service. Good luck. If you do have an option consider Fort Carson.

If stationed at Fort Stewart, you can only be assigned as part of a M109A6 Paladin section. At Fort Campbell, you could be on the M119A3 or the M777A2. I’ve been stationed at both locations and have served on all three pieces.

I enjoyed both locations, and received first class training in both divisions. However, when I was stationed at Fort Stewart, there was still a brigade that fielded the M119A2/3.

I have a deep seated hatred of most Paladin units, so if given the choice, I’d pick Campbell in a heartbeat. In fact, that’s where I’m trying to PCS to next.

I've been stationed at both, and without hesitation I'd say Fort Campbell. Overall, the troops and the organizations are much more professional and the esprit de corps is much higher.

I'm biased to Fort Campbell having been stationed there for 4 years. In truth either place has pro's/con's as far a surrounding areas are.

The key is what job you'll do. Working at a DIVARTY HQs will give you a high level look at the artillery. Where a battalion will have you crewing a howitzer. Both great jobs.

You know, I quite understand you apparent wish to go to a purely combat arms unit related to your present MOS, I get that, and I also similarly realize this is gonna be totally out off left field, however, when I was Army ROTC before going USAF OTS, my ROTC unit visited here purely to give us a taste of an Army engineering research environment, I personally found it quite interesting, I realize it was a long while ago, however, few ever mention it as a potential assignment choice...I mean, consider, it's East coast, right near some extremely good schools, the engineering research there is immensely practical for tanks, as !y ROTC unit witnessed, we got to meet an senior Army warrant, very knowledgeable, very impressive, one of the first I'd ever met, he'd been a senior NCO before going technical warrant, with your artillery exposure, I honestly think you could well fit in, I mean, I don't know where Army artillery research is done, I'll see if I can find you a spot where there's a Wikipedia page I can send, however, I quite honestly think that, if you'd like an unusual and intellectually stimulating assignment, that this might well be a quite good one for you, honest, I'd be most eager for your thoughts, if you're in school at all, this could be a very good place to further such efforts, esp in STEM areas of direct relevance to Army, you know? In any event, hope is of possible interest, I'll try to send other lesser known comparable options, OK? Enjoy?..?

I figured this page might be of interest...purely as another thought, you might also ask about an assignment at a facility for another svc, if available, it could be extremely good for career broadening, the site here includes all svcs, incl Army, from what I can see, or, at the very least most of them, I'd just stumbled across it, the page looked interesting, as well....

I had that choice too... I chose Fort Stewart because it was closer to Florida, in case I ever decided to visit Disney World, which I didn’t go, and aftef the Army I retired in Florida, and still haven’t go to Disney World.

I'm not military and don't claim to know what the base is like, but I do know that Clarksville is shit. It smells like rotting fish half the time on Riverside and Providence and this place is full of mental cases and drugs out the ass. I don't know how relevant that last part is, but it's a fact, so I added it. Now, to the city's credit: there ARE some nice areas. There are some very beautiful parks and monuments/govt buildings. But there's literally nothing to do here other than go to memorials and parks, go shopping, etc. Which gets old after awhile. On the bright side: Nashville is about 48 minutes away, so you have that option. In the end, it all comes down to your needs and personal preference.

Definitely Fort Campbell. Your going to get an Air Assault badge out of the deal plus as a PFC or SPC you will have plenty of opportunity for other schools like unit armorer school as well as the starting NCO courses.

I won't say either post is better than the others. I have been stationed at Campbell but never at Stewart. I enjoyed Campbell, only saw Savannah on tdy. Seemed like a decent place. The question you should ask yourself is would you prefer to be assigned to a light or mechanized infantry division? If you don't know the answer do some research, learn about both and Ake an educated decision. We can all give our opinion but none of us can tell you what would be better for you!

It depends on what you like. The weather in GA stays warmer longer. You are anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours away from beaches on the coast of SC, GA, and FL. Stewart is humid, very humid and the "Marine Express"(3ID) does not slow down. There are some things to do in Hinesville(town outside the gate) but you can go to Savannah or some of the other cities nearby. There are historical sites all over the area. I have buddies that were stationed at Campbell and Stewart but they liked GA the most and retired in the area.

I have been to both and I can say that Ft. Campbell is NOT cooler. It gets muggy and stagnant in the summer. At least in Ft. Stewart you have Savannah and Tybee and an ocean breeze nearby. Both places have there merit, but Ft. Campbell is definitely not cooler.

Definitely Ft Campbell! I loved it there, and so did my wife and kids! Clarksville is a decent town, and Nashville is just under 45 minutes away. And I was Artillery too! Geographically speaking on a national level, you're pretty much centered for almost every state in the midwest, south and east. Really pretty country there too.

It's hard to tell. The Georgia heat can get to you, but the 101st can also get to you. Ive seen a lot of soldiers and NCOs alike, lose themselves here at fort Campbell. If you come here, get ready to embrace the suck. However, Nashville and all the surrounding areas are beautiful

I have always found that the best assignment was the one you just left! I always preferred being stationed overseas with a mechanized unit. Having never being stationed at either Campbell or Stewart, I can't offer an educated response. I can say, at least it isn't Fort Drum!!

Well here’s is a different way of looking at it:

My personality fits the renegade division, the bad asses, the one who looks forward to conflict who not scared to fall from the sky that would be ft Campbell for this guy!!!

But now if I wanted to live like a senior citizen and quiet down my life I’d go to ft stewart

I have been to both Campbell and Stewart. There's not too much right around the either post, but there are surrounding cities. Campbell is nice , about 45 mins from Nashville, 2hrs from Chattanooga. Stewart is 45 mins from Savannah a little further from Atlanta...about 3 1/2 and 2hrs from Jacksonville. Both post are descent. Its all about what you make it

My Dad was Arty Hall of Fame 1950 OCS 3rd ID detail came down to Bushnell Natl Cemetery from Stewart in 99 to retire his grave! Great unit very smart execution! I told them stories about my dad: Col RT Hayden’s escapades in Korea a 3 times in SE Asia that seemed to motivate their esprit de corps!

Each are great Divisions, you would not be attached, you would be assigned. Do you wish to jump from helicopters or do you want your feet on the ground. If you are indifferent then base it on off base activity, one is near the ocean, the other is in the mountains. Look up the areas and determine which works best for you as far as off duty activity. I preferred the 3rd ID considering i was with them back in Germany, there you did a job and went home. I always thought state side dirt
State side duty was a show to please the community. I was at fort Campbell prior to 3rd ID, if you want to do your job 3rd ID

I know both posts. It doesn't really matter. Stewart has great fishing. Campbell has great hunting. Either way, soldier is soldiering.

Not endorsing Fort Stewart, just giving you my impression. I've been here since 2019.

The good: Close to savanah which has a decent night scene if thats your thing. Close to multiple beaches, access to cheap charter fishing boats to go deep sea fishing. Our taining area is massive and theres a ton of good fishing/hunting opportunities as long as you follow the rules (register firearms, proper licencing etc.) Okefenokee swamp is really cool to check out. Winters are pretty easy. Floridas a short drive. Hinesville isn't fancy but its got pretty much everything you could need.

The bad: The bugs down here are just plain disrespectful. Theres a pretty goofy cult right off post that will pester you at walmart trying to take you to church (don't go). There are alot, at least in my opinion, of child abduction attempts in the area.
This is a personal expierience but my unit has had a really rocky relationship with CIF, and finance. My expierience with on post housing hasn't been the best so if you have a family I'd recomend going off post for housing.
The ugly: The seasons here are different. its hot and muggy as hell here from april to october. Mud....its everywhere. Jesup has a large plexy glass/paper factory that stinks and somedays you wake up and it just smells like butthole. The barracks for 1ABCT are pretty bad.

As always your expierience down here will depend alot on you.
