The first true mass-produced (read: affordable) home computers hit the market in 1977, and began to saturate the market in 1979. In 1979, someone born in 1968 would have been 11 years old, and would be 55 today. Folks older than that did not really grow up with computers. Many are still not comfortable with them.

There are still a heck of a lot of folks in America - and on the VA's rolls - older than 55.

Just about any paperwork, records, databasing, or analytocal process can be streamlined and/or more available by making it digital. But as we move more and more things to the digital world, let's make sure we keep analog options. The are very few people that are COMPLETELY incompetent digitally. But there are plenty more who will be turned off by "online only" options and refuse to engage.

If my parents have to text to do anything, they simply don't do it. They even quit a doctor whose office refused to accept an old-school landline phone number because the office wanted to be able to text.

Let's not leave those folks behind.

This is the only way to go - we need to be fully digital, not writing and cashing checks. As a person who was born prior to the Korean War (barely), I believe the use of digital is NOT beyond the comprehension level of anyone today.

ATF needs to be fully digital so that I can use an antivirus program and eliminate it from the federal government.

Personally, I prefer digital over paper for basically everything. Electronic deposits are great as is the ability to refill prescriptions. I do enjoy human interaction ( on occasion) but so long as the platform is easy to understand and user friendly, I'm good with digital communication and services.

Benefit letters are typically mailed each year. Having these sent by email to those who opt in would be beneficial and easy to access. This would likely save a bit of money. In addition, I know for me that one sheet of paper is the only piece I've ever saved.

The amount of time you have to wait before you get an appointment. Mental health is making appointments 3 months out.

Length of treatment programs for PTSD and substance use is only 30 to 45 days. The minimum amount of time should be 90 days. The VA is treating it like a factory. Get you in and out as fast as possible.

I think it would be helpful when you move to a new location to complete your own registration online so you can be assigned a primary care team etc without needing to go in and register in person especially since there’s really no way to give the new facility a heads up that you have to register for care there etc.

My suggestion is to connect with a qualified professional virtually via webcam to try certain medical interventions together. If the patient is not responding to the treatment virtually, or prefers in patient treatment, then in-person treatment is and should be the treatment option.

The registration process for VA clinics. I moved and had to switch clinics and it should have been a simple phone call but I had to go I to the clinic and fill out the same paperwork again just to switch. It was very inefficient

I think it would be extremely helpful if telephone, video, or in-person VA appointments could be scheduled online instead of calling or messaging medical staff. That way veterans would be able to see availability and align our availability making the process seamless. Ordering your prescriptions have moved to digital. It’ll be nice to see scheduling follow suite.

Some medical interviews/appointments, COVID and tele-medicine have caused improvements with seeking medical appointments. There are apps that can access hearing loss, I can automatically reorder medication and get new prescriptions. I think most other VA benefits are already digital, but need to be made easier to use.

I believe that the many snail mail appointment reminders could benefit from digital resources. I think for me personally it's a waste of paper and/or postage since I've already been notified by text and email. For those vets who are able to receive digital notification notify them digitally and for those that don't have that capability send their notices by mail. I think that would cut paper and postage significantly.

I think there is currently a good balance between digital and physical paperwork records. One thing that needs to be eliminated are the mailings about upcoming appointments and the paperwork that is included in packaging with prescription refills.

The whole government needs to be redone. Don't get me wrong their have been great improvements especially with the VA system on the turn around time for claims(as best as they can) its better and the VA system compared to 5 plus years ago we have to admit its gotten better. Still much more improvements need to happen but even I have to say its gotten better.

They should complete the electronic records system that allegedly connects DoD and VA medical record/information so veterans aren’t starting over once out of service (especially those of us who a lot of years or were medically retired). This has been years in the making and still not completed nor utilized by va drs.
They also should create the ability to make appointments on line. Not every clinic uses this; or uses it poorly. The DC VA appointment request is a digital message to the medical team requesting an appointment. But there is no way to actually select or schedule an appointment. I’ve used it a few times just to see, but not a single clinic uses it or responded.
Fix bugs in the secure messaging area. If a dr sends a msg, we should be able to respond; however, if that Dr isn’t added to my allowed message list by that clinic, I can’t respond. And Drs rarely give a phone number so I get a message from a dr. To provide info in prep for an appointment l but I can’t answer. This is especially true for interns in specialty clinics.

Eye exams for prescription eyeglasses could be done digitally. My commercial firms do digital exams for lenses and contacts already and have done so for years. This would save a great amount of time and travel expenses.

My experiences with the telehealth services were middling during the pandemic, but not having to meet in person for many of my appointments was splendid. Anything and everything that can be remote should be remote in regards to appointments. I thought pretty much everything already was digital?

All routine questionnaires that are completed during annual physicals or new patient visits should be made available in our EHR. So that the veteran can complete them. That would allow the provider to tailor the visit to the areas the veteran actually needs assistance or referrals (consults). The same should be done with initial appointments with MH. If the screenings are completed in advance, the veteran can be more effectively assigned to a VA provider or community care provider. My personal experience: I prefer to see male MH providers. As a female veteran, I find male providers to be easier to talk with and less judgemental. My community care consult was sent out to female providers. I declined service each time, because the provider was not one I would speak with because I don't trust them. My care was delayed three months because the most vital details were not being conveyed to community care and then onto prospective providers.

Resources by state. Some states make locating resources a scavenger hunt. Other states make locating services easy. Level the playing field make accessing state services simpler.

The ability to request appointments from Specialty Clinics that the veteran already has established care relationship with ...for example Podiatry, Nutritionist, Optometry, and.Respiratory Therapy are just a few that veterans should be able to access without calling in, leaving messages and playing four rounds of phone tag.

A better question would be; Which government or VA resources that go digital would improve Veterans' VA connection the most. I have been a Caregiver for WWII and early Vietnam Veterans in the past and most of them do not have access to or have no assistance in using the technology that younger people take for granted. Better communication when appointments are canceled, or specialty doctor leaves the VA Healthcare system.

There is also a disconnect arranging Transportation to appointments, have had to reschedule the appointment as not given enough time to make the appoinment-text message notification would have been great

Able to contact any provider without having to get them added to your list. Add provider instead of a whole clinic that has to be filtered to them.
Online resource workshops. There is so much available but it is not easy to navigate.
Ability to search records like the doctors can, by procedure, topic, or clinic. If you don’t know the date, you end up with a ton of pages you have to sift through.

This whole digital idea is dangerous. Yes it's ok for certain things like checking in etc but after that we need to be extremely suspicious. Anything the government says is good should raise the warning alarm.

Homeless Veterans needing assistance with a safe place to stay or relocate to by State. This would show a location or a locations within a State to go to for help or assistance in relocation and employment opportunities…. or ….. a State of emergency action volunteer (or paid) crew. Locally or in another State or possibly in another country (helping with the Canadian fires). Sign up to assist in specific needs when when notified. So one might be homeless but have access to earning $$$ to assist in gaining preferential permanent place to call home. A rental, Tiny home or dormitory type housing.

I think the entire community care program could easily be replaced by AI.
back when try, West was managing the choice program. There were standards and timelines that had to be met. Now that it is all back in house the “care“ runs at the speed of government.
The same goes for the VA information systems. Billions have been spent on “updating“ systems. We spend billions but get millions in results.

The Vocational Readiness and Employment should really be digital. The fact now is that some counselors are aware of some things and others are not. When changes or guidelines are put out, it is evident that some counselors are not aware. The whole VR&E process should be unified. It should be the same for all veterans whore are eligible for services. Instead some are approved for a program while others are not. Some people in a program receive full BAH while others receive half. Some people are allowed to choose the equipment they need from the list provided by the school and others have to take what the counselor sends them. With a truly unified system, all eligible veterans would be treated equally. I have been waiting for nine months only to be told I can not be approved because of new guidelines. Those guidelines were put out five months after I applied. While my counselor was sitting on his hands, the guidelines changed and now I am out in the cold. At least digitizing the program might make it a but more fair.

Communication for appealing VA debts. They made an error with mine, and I couldn't even talk to someone on the phone, they told me it all had to be done by snail mail. I actually work for an insurance company now and was in the overpayment department, and claimants had multiple ways to communicate with us...snail mail only is ridiculous.

Online appointment scheduling. Trying to schedule an appointment with a Miami VA Hospital is an exercise in frustration. I went back-and-forth with 10 emails with women’s clinic for a confirmation of an appointment and on the day of the appointment someone had canceled it. It would be great if our pre-surgical COVID test can be done digital. Supplies can be mailed out. A video appointment can be scheduled to ensure the test is done in the right patient. Social Security. They push using the website, but there is very little you can do there. Basic payment history, apply for some benefits, but other services? Nope. Send messages to ask questions? Nope. Online chat? Nope. Call on the phone and they want you to use the website, but usually I can't ask my question so hours on the phone it is. Even most applications and updates require you to fill out a form in PDF or scan it in to upload. Basic things we can do on other organization sites can't be done on the SSA site. With phone waits going into several hours, how does anyone get anything done?

Not to get off the subject of the VA but people in prison which is a government system but they can benifit by going digital is the inmates visits. Now loved ones can visit the inmate via video chat. This saves the loved one from driving potentially several hours and visits could be more often which could bring a higher moral within the correctional system. Lawyers could use the same system to review cases with inmates and so forth. You could even do sick call via video chat. A well designed system could really be beneficial for everyone involved. This can be used within the VA as well. Loved one in the hospital can video chat with loved ones from a different state or even local. Make it work so the VA pays less in travel pay which will save the VA alot of funds that could be appropriated elsewhere. Thank you.

The resource that could be improved is the Community Care travel voucher submission with the proof that the Veteran went to the Community Care Appointment. It is so mundane and tedious to submit proof that we have to not only submit on BTSSS that we went to the Appointment, but show proof by getting the signed travel voucher along with a doctor's note saying we were seen by the doctor. Isn't it enough to just scan the stamped and signed travel voucher?

There needs to be a better and easier way for a Veteran to access their own VBA file online via the va.gov site. Many documents are inaccessible to Veterans through the portal such as compensation rating decisions and compensation medical examinations. Veterans currently have to either call in to request copies or have a CVSO or POA request record copies for benefits. Veterans should be able to digitally access their own benefit files with VBA.

The Department of Veterans Affairs medical records needs to be changed. All the community care providers I have all use the EPIC system and the VA does not. Every time I go to urgent care, or the outside hospitals have a hard time getting my medical records to treat me. It seems the VA does not communicate very well with the outside community. I have gone to 3 different hospitals that are not VA. All 3 of these hospitals have had to call the VA directly to try to get my medical records and my prescriptions that I am taking. This last Hospital stay I had to take an ambulance 1 hour to the nearest hospital that had a bed available. It took 2 days of me complaining that I need my insulin. They wouldn't go by what the VA had prescribed me, they made up what they wanted to give me and it was not even close. The glucometer told the hospital nurse I needed 47 units, and she said the heck with the glucometer, so she did it her way. after my meal in which I was to take 40 units of quick acting insulin and she gave me 10 units before the meal. After the meal the glucometer said I needed 47 units, and they were at a loss on what to do. they contacted their own hospital pharmacy, and they decided to just give me a small amount because they didn't want to give me that high of a dose thinking my blood sugar would drop. Well, If they had given me the 40 the VA prescribes for me to take before meals, I would of only needed the 7 units after dinner. But anyway, the VA records and the Hospital records will never be on the same page unless they go to EPIC. 3 days without my medications, mental health, neuropathy medicine, blood pressure medicine was all delayed for 3 days until they finally went through my HealtheVet on my cellphone to see what doses i took. It could cause someone to lose their life.

Without a doubt and hands down, there has to be a way to digitize the USPS. With the consecutive year-over-year losses and workload on workers, someone needs to find a way to integrate a digital system. You could have businesses purchased digital scanners to scan official documents to customers and the post office only delivery parcels and official mail. That would minimize the workload and compress cost. Customers can now effectively and efficiently track, archive, and receive their mail without any necessary delays.

A Lot of these answers are great and all warrant looking into further. I have personally dealt with a couple of these issues that being digital would have sped up the process greatly. Professionally speaking, it would be great to see a Chat Robot to a VA rep when there is a question for Ed benefits and not a robotic, generic GI Billie to guide you to resources that don't help. Second, having secured messaging with the VA as an SCO to discuss issues on veteran claims and to be able to submit forms on their behalf. Tertiary, mental health of veterans is a major issue. I have been on a taskforce for over a year to discuss and come up with recommendations for a whole health framework that would work for veterans that can't access VA facilities regularly due to the nature of their job. Telehealth appts would be fantastic and/or videos, e-groups for those that feel that is the right path. VA, please step out of your comfort zone to better our whole veteran framework.

When you move to a new location and need to sign up at a new VA hospital, currently you have to go in person to the main facility. You should be able to switch hospitals online and sign up for a new primary provider. Example: moving to Jacksonville means you need to drive out to Gainesville just to sign up to the facility in Jacksonville. Even though all my heath information is online and I'm already a patient, I have to make an unnecessary drive just to say I've moved and need VA health care.

Ordering supplies for our equipment, like CPAPs, should be changed from a paper form you have to mail back (and supply your own stamps) to VA app/website requests.

Paper should always be considered a “backup” option and only for exceptions, like those without internet access or have accessibility issues.

I'm legally blind and the kiosks were very helpful to me for signing in and getting my travel pay. However, a better way would be for travel pay to be automatically sent to my account after I fulfill my appointment. I've tried the travel portal and it is impossible for me to get though all the screens. The VA has the date , time and milage already in their system. Just make payment an automatic step.

Having certain patient information recorded either on audio or video. Some of our veteran population have trouble understanding staff when it comes to discharge instructions or patient education. Some do not want to take the time to read the handout given to take home. By recording the basic or standard instructions they could be sent to a patient' email and they or a family member would be able to review as often as needed to make sure the veteran is doing what they need to do.

The KIOSKS were a great thing for checking in, would love to see them come back, with the following addition. Make them capable of scheduling appointments as well. I work in a different Federal Job, and we can schedule appointment through our calendar. It shows which spots are already filled as well as days that can't be scheduled. Let us make our own appointment so they work around our schedule, not just the VA's

I think all of the Covid screening can be replaced by a self administered survey, including the testing, and here's why:
First of all having to travel twice to the VA hospital might not seem like a big deal for most. That is until you factor in the huge geographical area VAMC's cover outside of urban areas. My choice is limited to Seattle or Tacoma. However, most services are only available at one or the other, not both. Plus the Puget sound VA as a whole covers from the ocean to the Cascade Mountains, and north to Canada. It has about 300,000 veterans it serves, and is right in the middle of a huge joint command base , JBLM, and a multi-base Navy Command, Naval Base Kitsap. To sum it up you could easily have a several hour trip each way to get to your healthcare providers. This was easily manageable for me even when I had no transportation other than ferries and buses. However since Covid you have to get tested 48 hours prior to any procedures that could expose someone, like dental care. Dental care is particularly difficult under this dictate because the only vets who qualify are seriously disabled vets , like myself. So we are expected to arrange transportation twice in the same week, maybe up to 4 hours time not including the appointment time. If it was the only way then so be it. However, it has been over 3 years since the outbreak started, and 6 months since our Governor finally removed all Covid barriers in WA. VA started out saying they would match restrictions to the state level, that is unless the state is less restrictive apparently. Even though you don't even have to wear a mask in any healthcare facility here anymore, you still need a Covid test 48 hours before appointments even though it is invalid the minute you leave afterwards. If they really wanted to effect change it would be done right before an appointment. Since it is not the only reason to do so is to assuage feelings. It is a superstitious talisman, borderline religious observance. We believe it helps therefore it must. Just do self screening and be done with it for God's sake! Thanks for listening.

Find a secure means to submit medical documentation for VA Disability Claims. Mailing or faxing documents is a hassle compared to using a scanner or emailing a pdf file I downloaded from my provider. The fact is that hardly anyone has a fax machine, and half the time your fax doesn't go through. Also, mailing documents requires a trip to buy a large envelope and going to the post office. For some disabled veterans a trip out of the house is a challenge (physically and/or mentally).

Better direct communication with specific doctors and satellite facilities to ask questions, initiate conversations, and get more specific information about care and services. Also, if we could request appointment dates online it would lower the amount of calls to the office. Currently, I can only reach out to departments and not my doctors. Also I have to call to the main VA office for any questions and information and most of the time the calls are routed to the satellite facility. There have also been some work on scheduling online but it has never worked for me.

The VA (as a whole) and its disability claims examiners need to provide apologies and accurate corrections when Staff make mistakes. The VA (as a whole) and its claims examiners need to provide more information, more details about their specific claim process to applicants/recipients. Its incredibly frustrating when I'm not able to contact the claims examiners for clarification of what info they need for my claim, when there is no one I can contact when I have questions about what they're doing, when a mistake is found, and/ or why they are 'closing' appeals and other actions but refusing to provide details about the 'closure' reason.

What about an online portal system like the one Active DUty uses. MHS Genesis. Or if they already have one, then ensuring everyone knows about it. Then we could leave messages with our PCM and specialtiy care propviders and not spends hours making calls and leaving voice mails.

The ability to make or reschedule appointments! I just recently had an appointment canceled by my provider the day of. They left a voice-mail and told me to call back to reschedule. I waited on hold for 48 minutes before being disconnected. During telehealth video visits I have some difficulty hearing and understanding. If you could implement some kind of closed captioning technologies maybe there would be less misunderstanding.

Scheduling VA appointments online would be a lot easier to accomplish instead of having to message our PCM to request an appointment or having to call to schedule an appointment. I have messaged my PCM about making an appointment for a particular issue and sometimes they don't respond at all, or in a timely manner. CHAMPVA benefits applications. Right now we have to fax them and hope they are received. We faxed it last summer, told they were several months behind and to call back in January. We did and they said it still hadn't been processed but they were close to being caught up, so call back in March. In March they informed us we faxed the wrong application (we used the form they told us to) so it wasn't processed, but nobody bothered to notify us. We have faxed and re-faxed the correct application, with the last time being June 20th. We called to check on the status and were told they are now working on applications from June 7th, and to call back in a couple of weeks. Why can't these be uploaded to a database where we can see that it's been received and check for status updates?

Travel voucher submission for community care needs to be addressed differently. By the time a servicemember can get the civilian care voucher turned in, the 30 day window is nearly reached. This is not feasible for those living quite a distance from the VA to turn their documents in.

Before they roll out new updates to medical software it would be wise to perform Beta testing which can be considered 'pre-release testing'. It is also known as field testing that takes place at the customer's site. It typically uses black box testing. Reliability, security, and robustness are checked during Beta testing. While you are adding the new digital system please reduce the over kill on explanations which often obscure and confuse vets. We're not all programmers.

I was at the VA today. As you digitize remember the aging vet who doesn’t understand the terminology or process. Today it was at the check in the pharmacy, other days, it’s helping others find a specific place to check in. Our eyesight is bad, our hearing is shot, many of us have TBIs, dementia, Parkinson’s and a long list of other issues that make going digital feel impossible. Just registering for benefits and getting a valid ID card is a marathon. The cost of a new phone to work with these “upgrades” is prohibitive when your social security and/or retirement benefits barely cover housing and basic food. Consider the cost and the humans as you implement new plans,

The switch to Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) deposits promises that money will be placed into accounts on the date provided, and eliminates the need for scenarios such as calling a government agency like the VA asking "Where's my check?", which could have been stolen out of an insecure mailbox or delivered incorrectly.

Treasury estimates indicate that issuing a paper check is about 43 cents, while EFT payments cost less than 2 cents. This means the federal government could save up to $100 million in processing and postage annually. While it won't reduce your taxes, it may postpone an increase for a short period, or potentially be used for research or devising other ways to help taxpayers save some bucks.

This is one of the few instances where everyone emerges victorious.

I would really like it if C&P Exams for VA compensation claims were conducted via video calls. I live in Northern VA and just trying to get anywhere in this region can be extremely difficult with the traffic. If my appointments with my primary healthcare provider can be online, why can't C&P exams also be online? I understand some of the exams require a doctor to physically examine a claimant, but not all claims require that.

I would have to say, currently NONE? This is due primarily to the Human factor. The VA has a personnel shortage therefore quality in recruitment of those responsible for working with said digital technology are failing the Veterans and their caregivers. Many have stated they would like to see the Kiosk return, this is highly due to the fact that Veterans or caregivers can be their own Human factor when working with this digital system. Anticoagulation questionnaires - previously available for veterans to enter via clinic kiosks when presenting for lab draws. Would save time and potentially frustration with clinic asking obligatory routine questions. Additionally some veterans have difficulty receiving calls or responding to clinic messages so patient and provider could still have the questionnaire to relay the most pertinent information.

The pharmacy. The communication between the physician and the patient is latent. There needs to be a code that you can put in that the veterian does not have to raise the roof to get a perscription that they only need every so often! It took be three weeks to get allergy medication. That is crazy.

How about an online resource center for Vets so we can lean on one another. Those that have been in the system for years have corporate knowledge and those new to the system bring the most current information. To speak to the question directly, all aspects of administration can be improved by making records available digitally and instantly throughout the VA. But even this can only be as effective as the people using it. We simply don't properly train the people to use the tools we have available. Next, perhaps equally as vital, are the potential for remote visits and the technology to complete them correctly which are already used daily. Imagine increasing the pool of available VA approved medical providers by thousands overnight. And local hospitals today routinely issue monitoring and remote access devices free of charge to the 50 patients in each hospital who rack up the most ER visits. There are dozens of ways to improve the end user experience, this is about will and the notion of "we've always done it this way before".

Quite simple. At the major Hospitals like Stratten or Leeds or Cedar Junction. ON THE main web page a key that puts us into the main telephone directory. Our medical teams or specialty clinic. Thousands of calls daily are transferred through the system and lost or misdirected. This would also eliminate one or more transfers. A good portion of time is the patient is explaining the dilemma several times.

Personally I believe the Government should have a Veterans Medicare and upgrade all the VA medical facilities to public use. With (lets call it VETMEDICARE) a nation wide health insurance for Veterans like Medicare or medicaid would save a lot of time and money and financially benefit Veterans and the citizens of this country. And it wouldn't be all that expensive to change to a system like that because when a veteran uses the mission care act the Medical care that Veteran receives is billed to the VA and the VA pays it the same as Medicaid. And the reality of that is the bill is actually sent to medicare and they pay the bill as though the veteran is using Medicare. It's like having two very large departments within the Federal Government with personnel performing the same job twice. If it was all centralized and there was a separate health insurance for Veterans like VETMEDICAID/VETMEDICARE that is just Medicare for veterans it would save a ton of tax dollars. If veterans used a health insurance where they must be responsible in the health care they receive and need just like none Veteran citizens. Just imagine how much money would be save and put to better use supporting nationwide health and human services within America. Of course this idea does come close to supporting national health care and medicine. Which far to many Americans have been given the idea that Socialized Medicine is one step closer to Socialist Government. And try and guess who has been behind that national propaganda BS. Think about who will not longer be making a financial killing off of the average American citizen if there was a NATIONWIDE MEDICAL HEALTHCARE STANDARD ACT and LAW put in place through out this country. ANd the truth of this whole matter is that THERE SHOULD NEVER BE ANYTHING POLITICAL ABOUT AN INDIVIDUALS MEDICAL HEALTH NEEDS. IT's EDUCATION and HUMAN Science NOT Politics!!!! For every appointment, I get at LEAST the following:
1.) One, and sometimes two texts asking me to confirm that I will be at the appointment.. -- AND --
2.) One or two, folded postcards (tear off top and open) -- (and sometimes three ... and once, FOUR) reminding me of the same appointment. -- AND --
3.) Either one or two phone calls reminding me of my appointment.
GOOD GRIEF!!! All that to remind me of ONE appointment. What a waste of resources!!! It seems like you could find out a vet's preference and just use that. For me, a text will suffice ... if you're REALLY worried I might miss it, another text two days before the appointment to confirm would be plenty. Can't you train your computers to accept what we say instead of wasting paper, printing, postage and personnel time in making in-person calls?

Scheduling our own appointments online would be helpful, I found the majority of the time it takes almost 2-3 weeks before an appointment clerk returns your call. In addition, trying to get to an appointment clerk or the right department can be a tedious process. By allowing the patient to to have the ability to schedule an appointment would cut down on phone calls to the facility and be able to manage individual appointments efficiently. My Healthy Vet has a platform that allows for individual scheduling of appointments but it still requires a clerk to call back to confirm and verify. This sometimes is not effective because typically phone calls cannot be answered by the veteran.

Digital forms & signatures for anything that still requires signatures. Even for those with access to computers, a printer, scanner, or the correct form can be a burden. Calls and showing up in person for a records release, privacy form or whatever can be a burden for multiple reasons. Nearly every biz including medical does this in private sector, cept notarized docs and court filings.

2. Hines VA needs a better system for identifying "who is next" for care. Coming out and screaming a name to a bunch of elderly vets who don't hear so well - doesn't feed the bulldog...also those same hard of hearing vets had/have to deal with you wearing a mask and are behind plexiglass and told to stand 6 feet away - good luck with that. Set up some digital whiteboard showing which patient is next and what room to go to .

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) is already digital, and it has many thousands of paid Civil Service employees who practice delay, delay, delay and have used Covid restrictions to close down a less than useful government facility to begin with. They try to blame the 1973 fire on many problems that could be answered more readily and correctly by just saying "We aren't able to find your records", but please come in and sit down with a living, breathing person who cares, and we will try to contact past unit members, or review their records, that you served with and maybe find some old orders, etc., with your name and theirs on them. Sometimes those old orders had serial numbers and/or Social Security Numbers, names of units departing, going to, and even enroute stops. Sharing of the data in each individual veteran's/retiree's records could solve many of the roadblocks the management and staff at NPRC have created, perpetrated and perpetuated for the civil service's obstructive purposes. Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be an improvement over current Intelligence. The NPRC may as well be digital now, because for three years no living breathing veteran (unless an NPRC civil service employee) has been allowed entrance to the structure. I did not retire until after the 1973 fire, so it is not applicable to me, however my records were completely misplaced about 10 years ago, and I had to rebuild them from various sources and personal papers. At the time a lady manager and a gentleman staffer worked with me and helped me rebuild my records. I have had two Medals (The Defense Meritorious Service Medal (DMSM) and an U. S. Army, Meritorious Unit Commendation Service Medal, General Order 43, Headquarters, Department of the Army, Washington, DC, 29 November 1973, Passenger Service, Bien Hoa Detachment 5, 8th Aerial Port Squadron, United States Air Force) awarded to me and received by mail after my retirement December 31, 1982. The NPRC at first denied the DMSM because they had confused it with a previous United States Air Force (USAF) awarded "Meritorious Service Medal (MSM)". They are two entirely different awards for services rendered at different times. I have been able to locate a copy of the DD Form 215 within the past week by a visit to the Veterans Affairs (VA) unit at 9700 Page Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri. This was a surprise to me, and I asked the agent to search his records further, but no DD Form 215 for the Army medal was found, although I have documentation from the USAF that it was forwarded to NPRC. Please pardon this diatribe and wish me luck to live long enough to be buried with all the medals I earned.

Please bring the check-in kiosks back! They were so much easier to check-in than the whole text message routine. Text messaging takes too long, and doesn't seem to let the front desk know for some time that you have checked in. Half the time I can't find or remember the number to send a text to in order to check-in. Also, being able to check-in via the kiosk alleviated waiting in line to check-in at the window. Thanks!

I think the access to benefits and disability benefits is already some what digital but definitely could be improved upon and made more easily accessed and user friendly.
Telehealth visits also need improvement. If the VA is running behind the video link times out and kicks you off. Closed captioning during these calls would be nice for hearing impaired individuals or even if it's just a choppy feed.
Travel reimbursement kiosks need to also return, filing out the paper forms is quite difficult due to my dexterity.

Mental health therapy. I had to wait two weeks for even a call back. I think a counselor via text or quick phone call or even chat online could help depending on how serious the issue is.

Most of the benefits I use have a digital component to them, although some are still pure "analog." I think the combination is about right. As the VA continues to modernize, I just want it to review and refine the technologies in use so that the technologies actually provide a useful service to Vets and Staffers. E.G. Telephone Menu Trees can be infuriatingly long without the option to leave them and speak with a human.

Go digital with reordering my CPAP supplies digitally, like prescriptions. There are digital options for many of the things mentioned in other posts, but at my VA med center, you have to call prosthetics and possibly sleep medicine/lab to reorder masks, hoses, and filters for my CPAP machine. It truly is a waste of time and money. It could easily be made into a digital process.

Ex: Community Care authorizations -in my hand and able to forward/print/download to my personal files.
