I watched business owners thank service members for their service. I have not seen that around military bases too terribly much. The Chamber of Commerce for these cities even host a quarterly luncheon to honor/thank service members at the Service Person of the Quarter. Nominated members end up with a bag of goodies (hotel stays, coupons) and a cased US Flag (just like on deployment).
