Which military post offers the best bass fishing?

Bass season is coming, especially in the north. I remember some good spots at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO but I'm wondering what other posts offer solid fishing. This will be helpful for fishermen/women PCS'ing, going to school, or doing DTY. Post pictures if you have them!

NAS Atlanta - Word famous Navy Lake Site

is on Lake Allatoona which offers good bass fishing

Dobbins used to have a tournament there regularly - it stopped about 5 years ago - won it a couple times.. :-)

As much as I HATED Ft Riley, I did get to fish there when I wasn't on rotation. However I fished more for Catfish, my battle fished for Bass though and caught some really nice ones out of the lakes there. Plenty of fish and places to fish there. I still HATE the Midwest though and besides the Tank Range I HATE Ft. Riley

Fort Campbell is near Land Between the Lakes. There is excellent bass, catfish, crappie (a mythical fish I can never find), and bream. Both TN and KY have a hatchery program that has brought back a breeding population of brown trout. Stripped bass are fairly common.

Fort Drum offers outstanding Bass fishing on post, excellent Muskie fishing on the nearby St. Lawrence Seaway and world class Salmon and Steelhead fishing in Lake Ontario and the Salmon River just to the south.

I never was much into bass fishing but for a wide variety of everything else on base, and lots of fishing -- including bass -- off base, I loved FCTCL, Virginia Beach. It's relatively near the gigantic Navy base in Norfolk, VA.

I'd have to say FT Campbell, two main lakes on base, and several trout streams. Both Tennessee and Kentucky keep these areas stocked. And you only need one states fishing license to get an on base license.

NAS Corpus Christi. Speckled Trout like crazy. Black Drum, Red Fish, Snapper, Flounder, Croaker, Whiting at the beach. Man you name it, it's there!

After many years I found both Fort Benning and Fort Stewart to have pretty good fishing opportunities. Fort Benning has alot of river fishing available for a variety of species and Fort Stewart offers a chance to fish at a "trophy" pond. If you have the chance I highly recommend a fishing excursion to Ft. Stewart, just don't feed the Gators. Happy Fishing everyone and tight lines to all.

Fort Polk's Toledo Bend. They have a great rec area on this lake. If you are a bass fisherman you have heard of this lake. It is also on the pro tour. I was in for 23 years and worked for the Army 21 more as a civilian and I fished the whole time. Part of that time was federal game warden. This Army rec sight is the finest and the lake the best fishing I know of in the south. Hope this helps.

SSG Carlos Madden Fort Campbell is quite near Ky Lake and the LBL,excellent fishing for many species of fresh water fish.Bass,crappie,catfish,stripers,white bass,yellow bass and bluegills and closer to the base the Tennessee River holds most of these plus small mouth bass and sauger(relative of the walleye). A little farther East is "my" lake(Reelfoot) where you can catch black bass,spotted bass,bluegills,crappie and channel catfish.The photos are my fish caught on Reelfoot. Click on the last photo to see my big catfish. LOL

The ‘old’ hospital at Camp Pendleton had a lake that was beautiful with lily pads and looked very inviting for fishing.

Corona, CA Navy Base also has a quiet, seldom fished lake. https://www.global security.org/military/facility/corona.htm

It's been years since I've been to FT. Rucker But they would stock several of there ponds and small lakes then close them for 2 years so they had large bass in their lakes and when I was there deer hunting was year around either sex limit 1 a day. Shotguns only.

When I was assigned to Fort Sheridan we had to provide active duty personnel to Fort McCoy Wisc, to support them during summer training of reserves. One of our NCO's would volunteer each year. He was a fisherman of the highest level he took his camper and boat up with him and he would fish every minute he wasn't working....He brought back lots of fish tales but also lots of photos to back them up.

While I was a patient at the Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VA) they had a Chapter from Healing Waters. Then they dropped them for some outfit for Frisco. Their first trip was about $350.00 per Angler. Needless to say I dropped out as their idea of helying Disabled Vets flat disappeared. The closest Healing Waters Chapter was in Redding. That's a 4+ hour drive and a $100.00 per night. I lost my right leg and my left ankle is fused. They just recently took my big toe on the left and now I can't even walk on any uneven ground. Fly fishing is completely except for the $500.00 a day guided trip on the Lower Sacramento plus that $100.00 a night fee for two nights. Ends up over $800.00 for a day Fly Fishing and I just can't do that day after day. So now, I can't even balance myself on a boat on the Ocean so Saltwater Fishing is no out also and I grew up fishing on the Pacific Ocean. I'm a 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran and an Amputee. I've fished TWICE in the past 6 years.

Pease AFB used to have good fishing but the AF transferred ownership to the FAA and NH Fish & Game who declared all three fishing ponds off-limits as "conservation areas". All are contaminated to the point where catch & release would be the only safe option if access were granted in the future.

No better Large Mouth Bass fishing than in Florida", Central Florida is known as The Bass Capital of The World!"
MacDill AFB in Tampa is within 1 hour of the best bass fishing Florida has to offer with hundreds of beautiful lakes and rivers that offer lunkers in the 10 to 12 lb. class and easy pickings for 1.5 to 7 and 8 pounders easily harvested if one knows what they are doing. If not, there are plenty of local guides to help put you on the big one.

I have to echo all the recommendations for Land Between the Lakes (LBL) near Ft Campbell. I grew up there and the fishing is great! The lakes are fun, period!

Ft Hood Texas, Belton Lake has some of the best fishing. If you are out for Sand Bass, you will catch your limit of 25 per day! Fish on the bottom for awesome catfish too. Yall gotta get up early for large mouth bass, once it heats up, the bass are gone. What an awesome place!

Ft Drum, NY: You fish for it - we got it! I am a retired Soldier and a NY State Licensed guide who has fished here since 1986. We have lakes, ponds, rivers & creeks. The St Lawrence River was named the "best bass fishery" this year by B.A.S.S. The St L. produced an 8#4oz smallmouth last year and is a famous Musky fishery. What is not famous is the 4 or 5 St Lawrence Tribs that have really large numbers of muskies and are the best spots in the US to catch a fly rod musky!!! Lake Ontario is a bass hot spot and it tribs have significant runs of pacific salmon, both Coho & Kings each fall. These runs are followed by Steelhead that spend the winter in the rivers and creeks and spawn in the spring. Large Browns run these tribs to spawn in the fall. Landlock Salmon and Skamania Steelhead run in the summer. Numerous streams contain resident trout and the brook trout is making a great comeback on the Tug Hill Plateau. We have Largemouth Bass, Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Walleyes, Crappie, Bream and excellent Channel Cat Fishing. You want a real thrill, try fly fishing for Carp up go 50 pounds plus! My biggest problem here is to decide what to fish for today!

Fort Hood Texas has many fishing holes way out in the boonies in terrain too rough to traverse -- BUT a short helicopeter ride to the field can get you to ponds unfished in MANY years, if EVER!! As a young PFC Jeep driver 45 years ago, my commander wanted to research and find some of these virgin unfished locations. Needless to say, he was an interesting commander to drive for!!

FT Lee VA has many good bass lakes in its vicinity but my favorite and go to pond was the water hazard on the 6th hole of the FT Lee golf course. There were off limits signs around the pond so we would be the last foursome at the end of the day and keep the fishing gear in the golf bag. When we got to the 6 th hole we still had an hour or so till sundown and The fishing was fast and furious as these bass had not seen many artificial before. We did release all the fish and used barb less hooks to give the fish the best chance at survival. Our LTC who did a tour in Vietnam would park off the road and hike in through the woods to fish the pond and got lost in the woods after dark trying to find his way back to the car. It took a long time for him to live that one down.

Ft. Gordon is a lot bigger than you would think. There a ton of great spots including some ponds that seem like they haven't seen a person since the Second World War. You'll need something (vehicle) high enough off the ground to get to some of them but a bunch are accessible by car as well.

I was never stationed at Camp Lajune but I did go to the area quite a bit and it was some of the best intercostal fishing I've experienced.

Eglin Air Force Base, and it isn't even close. I have caught some monster fish there. There are a lot of bass in places like Polk and Campbell, but nowhere near the size in Florida.
If you want to catch trout, there are some great spots near Fort Carson.
For salmon, Fort Richardson can't be beat. I also caught a huge halibut up there, but I think that was more of a fluke.

You can't beat Ft. Lewis for trout... over 30 lakes on post, the majority stocked every year and some of the prettiest solitude you could ever ask for.... had a lake 1/4 mile behind our Motor Pool just full of trout that hardly got fished...

Camp Blanding Training Site is a 73,000 acre training installation in NE Florida with several lakes that can be fished. I know several folks that have landed huge bass from lakes like Kingsley Lake (the main lake), Lowry Lake, and Magnolia Lake. There are others but many are restricted due to training areas - you have to check with Range Control. Personally, I have not done well in the CB Lakes even though I have fished them many times - I have a hard time figuring how to fish crystal clear water. Camp Blanding has recreation cottages on Kingsley Lake (on-post) so a fishing get-away is just a phone call away! Happy fishin'!

JBLM has some awesome smallmouth fishing around, and there's some decent largemouth to. American lake is good, but there usually deep.
