How likely do you think I'd be deployed with whichever reserve unit I'm with while I'm in college? As in, how needed are these jobs? Which MOS is most likely to deploy, 15P/Q or 35F/S or 25U? 2019-02-11T14:19:30-05:00 PVT Private RallyPoint Member 4359163

I'm looking to go either 15p/q or 35f/s or 25u. For example, if they just got back from a deployment, it will have about 5 years before they are available to deploy again. Now, if you join a unit in the year in which is an available to deploy year....and it has a dance scheduled....well, you could very well find yourself on a plane going somewhere. So...in essence, it all depends. If you go 35 series and don't want to deploy I would suggest not joining an intelligence command structure, specifically the MIRC because they have MOBs come out every year and often times the units cannot fill them organically so they get other Soldiers to augment their mission (usually on a voluntary basis). Also, depends on the policy of the government at the time. With their being an intention of troop draw down in certain parts that could play a factor. At the end of the day, the only ones that could tell you the likelihood of deploying with a unit is the folks at that unit. It isn't always necessarily dependent on your MOS. The best way to find out is to look at the deployment cycle for the units close to you. Typically the Reserve component will deploy about every 4 years. Why? Because you're not in the Army and you haven't received the proper training or developed an understanding on what some of our acronyms truly mean.

The most important factor you must look at is what will make you happiest job-wise. You will be committed for several years so you need to take the time to figure out what you can see yourself doing in the long term. Will deployment opportunities arise? Yes! Just take advantage of them when they do.

Have a good night! They call them 25 Universal for a reason. They are pretty much the jack of all trades in the S-6/ Commo Shop. While their official job title sounds radio(ish), every S-6 assigned uniform also learns networking, active directory, wiring, imaging, work order management, vehicle comms support, crypto,...... I could list more but I think you get the point. I am a Sierra and have seen multiple NCO's that do not have deployment patches, even seniors. 35N is a more advanced 35S that has the field training to do the job. 35S most likely go to Korea for a year or Australia. Unless you are Airborne, then you are likely to go SOTA . If you are looking to set yourself up for the future 15Q, (really long schools (17C, 25D)), 25N, 35Q, 35F translate to nice civilian careers.
