Without a doubt, Fisher House is the premier nonprofit among these choices. Their mission, financials, and proven results separate them from the other organizations. Thanks for that - as it's extremely important to serve and honor those who have sacrificed for our country.<br />I would like to offer two suggestions. <br />#1 Don't start your own non-profit. Hopefully, this doesn't sound harsh, but the reality is, you're going to be one of tens of thousands who have the same desire and drive; however, lack the necessary resources to be truly effective. Look for an organization that aligns with what you want to do and then see if you can partner in your location.<br />#2 Consider Project Sanctuary or our Texas-based affiliate, Healing our Heroes Project (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.hohproject.org">http://www.hohproject.org</a>) as someone to work with to achieve your desired results. The reasons are two-fold. Firstly, I love al of these organizations, but their individual boards might or might not have the authority to help a specific service-member because of their internal qualification criteria. Secondly, it is my opinion that the profits sharing, sort of, would make the biggest impact. That impact might also allow you to help address the needs of veterans whose qualifications might not fit the predetermined mold. They helped me in so many ways. They gave me clothes so I didn't have to wear scrubs, blankets , food and they were always checking on me. I saw more of them than the medical staff. Another great Veteran's Non-Profit Organization that continues to help and support our Disabled Veterans is the Disabled American Veterans of which I have been a proud lifetime member of since 2010. I devote my time to helping my fellow Disabled Veterans to the best of my ability. I created a website called Disabled Vet Assistance (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.disabledvetassistance.org">http://www.disabledvetassistance.org</a>) to help my fellow Disabled Veterans navigate to the VA Forms site to access the various forms needed for VA Disability Claims, a site that list the many Veteran's Service Organizations that are available to assist Disabled Veterans with their VA Claims and a section for Veterans to request assistance in locating a Veteran's Service Organization near them. I don't charge any fees to assist my fellow Disabled Veterans and any donations that I may receive to my website will go toward the continued work of the Disabled American Veterans. <div class="pta-link-card answers-template-image type-default"> <div class="pta-link-card-picture"> <img src="https://d26horl2n8pviu.cloudfront.net/link_data_pictures/images/000/002/743/qrc/aim.png?1443022439"> </div> <div class="pta-link-card-content"> <p class="pta-link-card-title"> <a target="blank" href="http://www.disabledvetassistance.org">Disabled Vet Assistance - Home</a> </p> <p class="pta-link-card-description">Disabled Vet Assistance is dedicated to assisting fellow Disabled Veterans with their VA claims issues</p> </div> <div class="clearfix"></div> </div> Response by SPC Darin Taylor made Sep 2 at 2014 3:34 PM 2014-09-02T15:34:22-04:00 2014-09-02T15:34:22-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 1897164 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Whats the business ?
