Uhlig 545195

The easiest rank for me was Specialist. I was promoted to PFC in my Company Commanders office in 1987 right before leaving out on mission - they pinned it on a couple days early because we would be gone when the unit promotion ceremony was held. The Commander congratulated me and asked if there was anything I wanted to say - I blurted out (without thinking) that I was now a PFC for too long....no reason why I said that and I had given it absolutely zero consideration....I just blurted it out as soon as he asked me, the 1SG immediately said WELL! and started laughing....I earned the waiver to SPC and was promoted to SPC five months later.

SSG was the hardest rank to get promoted, after earning 794 promotion points (798 was the max points), the cutoff score dropped to pick up two of us....I spent almost six years time in grade as a SGT before getting promoted. I was moving around from State to State and each time I was given a speech about I had to start all over because I am "The New Guy". I am National Guard. SFC was the easiest because I was on active duty and I was stable and able to just do what I do.
