While you are Active Duty what is the Worst Food that you were given? Where were you at? Did you eat it?

I am curious about the worst food that all of the branches are subjected to? Submarine Duty? On a Ship? Living in Tent City? what was the worst meal that you probably would not even share with your pets! ha ha ha...but at the time it was all that was provided to you so you ate it! This should get some interesting responses......Mine was MRE while in Basic Training! Still don't know if that was beef.....

I had Python at the Jungle Warfare Center in Malaysia. It tasted like Chicken. Also Monkey: the other white meat.

I had Tabasco sauce, so the flavor was not bad. What was disagreeable was the parasite that went Prometheus on my digestive system. I haven't felt that much intestinal distress since I took my daughter to a One Direction concert. I finally killed the beastie with a generous application of habanero peppers.

whoa whoa whoa, submarine food is usually pretty decent. Until you get that one cook on midrats who can't even make rice. But the worst food I ever had was underway on the boat and the supply officer, a former cook himself, marinated the sunday steaks in butter rum extract. You couldn't pour enough frank's red hot to make the taste go away. People were returning their plates to the galley. One of the comments overheard was that it tasted like arm pit flavored $hit.

Orange nut roll in the C-Rations. It was rumored that WWII vets left it in the field so the enemy would find it and feel sorry for them. It had the consistency of a hockey puck right out of the freezer.

The dehydrated pork and beef patties in MRE version 1 - the original 12 dark brown bags. Took forever to rehydrate or if eaten as is tasted like munching on a bullion cube.

At JMRC in Hohenfels (the USAREUR version of NTC), MANY, MANY meals were far past the edible stage. To make them worse were the run down buildings they were served in and the non English speaking, hygiene questionable food servers.

Once it was Country Captain Chicken MRE as the reghning king of yuck. That's until in was dethroned by the infamous Veggie Omlette MRE

MRE Ham and chicken loaf. If you aren't at least in your 40's you probably won't even know what I'm talking about, but trust me....you don't want to.

While I will also nominate the dehydrated beef patty, the worst has to be the omelet. Not the T-Rat version which was at least barely edible, but the MRE version. The omelet MRE was a yellowish block of gelatinous goo with chunks of some kind of animal flesh suspended in it. If you ate it, vomited it back in the bag and then let it cool, I am positive it would return to the same consistency as originally opened. It was horrible.

Afghan mystery meat cooked but still pink swimming in unknown oil, rice and naan cooked over open flames in pots washed with river water trucked in weekly by Afghans -who believe in washing their hands in sand-and maybe the water-just no soap, melons bought from local villagers, fertilized with human waste and cut with a knife without having been washed (that's what doc said really got us), and no refrigeration. You can only refuse so many times and protest that you already ate before they start to be offended. Each member of my ETT was sick for at least a week, a few had to be medevaced.

But I think some of you were having fun complaining about MRE's?

Surprisingly the worst place I've been for chow other than Iraq was a USAF base. I was TDY/TDA to RAF Chicksands in England for 2 months. Their messhall sucked, their cafeteria sucked, & even their bowling alley sucked. Their Rod & Gun club had good food. Ate really well downtown too. Worst place in Iraq was Camp Fallujah during the spring 2004 siege. The messhall served what supplies of food they had on hand but that was at least understandable.

While in AIT, toward the end of our final field exercise, I was handed a Sausage Jumbalaya MRE for breakfast. I tossed it back and ate the beef jerky that I had brought with me.
