I'm a fairly new Sailor, joined the Navy fresh out of high school and am now stationed in a shore command in Fort Worth. I'm a part of a reserve, active/reserve command and the last couple months I've sat behind a desk feeling like I have zero impact on anything and it's been pretty difficult for me. I want to go on a ship, I want to go full active and actually have stories to tell. The problem is, I feel like I'm barely keeping up as is. Has anyone here ever felt that? You want to do more but you're afraid to fail so miserably that you yourself become a story of what not to do.

Then there's those days where I want to experience combat. Yes, I'm a 21 year old who sees war movies and, well, more than just wanting to be an action hero, I want to feel like I've done something. I can't help but think sometimes, what if, given the physical strength to get through the training, I actually become the war fighter my country needed all along?

I can't be the only one who feels like they were meant to serve a greater purpose.

That i can relate to how you feel. But you said you are in Full time support or reserve? Remember no matter FTS or reserve, you can spend time with family. So maybe because you are not married (I guess) and young. You feel like you need something to do. a simple advice as fellow reservist, get a life. I mean a civilian life. :)

Also you can always go active too.

I am FTS and married but still I feel the need to get out there and do something. I want to go active but I'm unsure as to how I or my wife will handle it. I want to do something for the military that truly changes something for the better.

I think you can volunteer to go active ...that will depend on your rating. unless your rating is an exciting rating, life in active is not much different. Unless you are on a ship of cause. But that also post a challenge to your married life. I would assume (guessing again) you don't have children yet? Because when you have children ... I think FTS is awesome for a military family.

Don't rush to go active, because they pay a great price than us the reservist and FTS. Their family are the first to pay the price. Since you married, talk to her about it. Because if you are on a ship ... email is the most common communication you will be doing with your wife.

Yes Sir, you can say that. It's been getting better, but still gets to me good sometimes. It's mostly with talking to people though.
