Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band is my favorite . Who are other big name screen or stage celebrities, sports stars, or business or cultural icons who are strong and substantive supporters of Servicemembers and Veterans ?

He can be crass, but Ron White is a huge supporter of the military and quietly does private performances on post for handfuls of enlisted Servicemembers whenever he is in town. Saw him roll his tour bus right up onto Kelly Hill at Ft Benning and do a performance in the DFAC on a Saturday for Soldiers living in the barracks not. 50 yards away . Gotta give Ron White credit

Metallica does a lot for SMs and Vets. There was also recently the Seattle Seahawks QB who upgraded a soldier's seat to First Class to thank him for his service and he was low key about it all. Pretty classy in my book.

The ones that put their words into action. Plenty of celebrities and sports stars went into service in previous wars. Ted Williams (WWII and Korea), Joe DiMaggio, Elvis, etc.

Those like Bob Hope and Gary Sinise do their part nowadays, though all we can ever ask for is for someone to actually care and put their words into action.

I've seen lots of celebrities during my visits to Walter Reed in Bethesda. Trace Adkins and Jay Leno are known to use their celebrity to give back to vets, just not as much as Mr. Sinise.

When I was in Africa in 2003-2004, Robin Williams came along with a race car driver and wrestler (just can't remember who they were). I missed it cause of guard duty:(
Afghanistan 13-14, Willy from Duck Dynasty came by. Missed that too.

I know this band isn't for everyone (I love them), but Five Finger Death Punch is a big supporter of Veterans. Ivan Moody (lead singer) comes from a military family. They started the campaign 'No One Get Left Behind' (http://www.5fdp4vets.com/).

Henry Rollins is someone who has done quite a few USO tours (between six and eight I believe). Though he has been vocally critical about the wars, he has also been vocally supportive of troops. He was even selected to hand out "Sailor of the Year" in 2005. For someone to put their political views aside in order to support service members is pretty impressive.

Toby Kieth is a big supporter of the Military. I have seen him every time I have deployed and it is a big morale boost.

Toby Keith came to Iraq when I was there in 2006-2007. Even though the folks said he wasn't going to stay around and sign autographs, he stayed until everyone that wanted an autograph got one.

Another one that I have always been impressed with is Chely Wright. She isn't a big name star, but has had a couple of country hits. She was also in Iraq when I was there. Her brother was a Marine and she has played overseas for the troops a lot. At her concert in Iraq, she said if anyone came to a show when they got back to the states, she would by them a beer. I signed up for her fan club and went to a show when I got back to the states. She made good on her promise and bought me and my wife a beer after the show. You should have seen some of the shocked looks from the people in her fan club when she told her manager to go get us a 6 pack and told me to meet her after the show.

Sponsored Hometown Heroes and I was honored to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the Richmond Race. The race was named after Matthew and Daniel Hansen..Staff Sgt. Daniel Hansen died in Afghanistan on Feb. 14 after his foot patrol was hit by an improvised explosive device. His twin Matthew was still serving at the time of the race.

Through all the replies to date, no Toby Keith? I agree with Gary 100% and there are huge amounts of others. Nice string to shed a light on those out there who go against the Hollywood grain, the music industry is more in tune with service I think, Hollywood is where it can seriously affect your career. Billy Ray Cyrus,
Released a tribute album to the military(I'm American), held (been a few years) concerts and cookouts for entire battalions on his farm in Nashville, and was deemed an honorary member of the 101st (believe it was general campbell that awarded it).

Besides Bob Hope, I vote for the late Robin Williams. a friend of mine was wearing his Coast Guard uniform in San Francisco. Robin Williams happened to see him and thanked him for his service!

Most recently it has been the Seattle Seahawks who have stepped up in small ways to support our military veterans and service members. But the Picture of Gary Sinise in the original question is probably the most visible. I would also like to give a nod in the direction of the WWE, whether it is their "superstars" or the head office of Titan Sports, they have done well in supporting our military, from putting on the shows in forward areas to offering free tickets to service members when they are in the area. To me this shows how much appreciation they have for what our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen/women, Marines and Coast Guard. Kudos to all who support our military who ever they may be.
