Who enjoyed designing, building or playing in tree-houses or tree-stands when you were young?

Growing up with the in the 1950's and 1960's I watched many Tarzan movies and the Swiss Family Robinson movie which included elaborate tree-houses. In the neighborhood I grew up in outside of Philadelphia there were no really big trees; but, there were some trees that could support tree houses. On Vacations with my family we went to areas with lots of trees when we went camping in state and national parks. I saw a few tree houses and many tree stands outside the parks; but, never inside them - probably because of park rules.
Did you play in tree-houses and or hunt from tree stands when you were young? Do you help your children and grandchildren do the same?

LTC Stephen F. I grew up in Ridersville, Alabama and for fun me and my brother would help design chicken coups. So I go the ideal to build a tree house where we can go just to get a eyes view on the pasture watching the cattle. Those were the days. I still love tree housed to this day.

Growing up with the in the 1950's and 1960's, I had big dreams for tree-houses probably from watching Tarzan movies. I helped our neighbors build a tree house or two and liked playing in them. During the construction of one tree-house a neighbor dropped a hammer on my head which generated a fair amount of blood and temporarily halted the tree-house building project.
That process was completed the next day or if I remember correctly. I helped my own sons with some tree house ideas when they were young. Many of my tools would dissappear for a time as they went off into the woods to build a tree-house. Sometimes they needed to defend their tree-house from older teenagers.

Like you, Steve, growing up in the '50s and '60s, I had several tree houses, which we sometimes called tree forts. In, 1957, my cousins and I built one in the woods near our grandparents' home in Northern Saskatchewan that stood for over thirty years. I had one in Missouri and one more in Iowa.

I enjoy watching the show on cable about the newest generation of treeHOMES!!! And I love the Disney movie, Swiss Family Robinson. I'd give anything to have that "mansion" in my backyard!!!

LTC Stephen F. We had a huge box elder tree in our front yard. We could climb it easily enough but never had the resources to really put up a tree house. I think the most we did was somehow wedge a piece of plywood up there so we had a platform.
