Today Duffleblog posted a typical satirical post about a F-35 losing a mock dogfight to the Red Barron in a Fokker DR1. That brought back memories of snoopy versus the Red Barron in Charles M Schulz authored Peanuts comic stripe, in the Royal Guardsmen singing Snoopy versus the Red Barron in the 1960s, and the TV shows that came out at Halloween, Christmas, etc. How many of you enjoyed Peanuts?

I admit I enjoyed Peanuts a lot while I was growing up. I enjoyed reading the comic strips, watching the TV shows and even listening to the Royal Guardsmen singing "Snoopy versus the Red Barron."
I enjoyed watching the Peanuts holiday specials which had the Vince Guaraldi trio soundtracks.

LTC Stephen F., the old 33 1/3 RPM vinyl record during the Christmas of 1980. I got a snoopy record player with the Snoopy vs. the Red Barron story/song, and the Puff the Magic Dragon somg (which would later come under scrutiny, LOL).

I had a set of baby blue “onsie’s” with the footsies, the whole nine yards. They were adorned with Snopy and his flying dog house tying up with the Red Barron himself.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

SGT Michael Thorin, many thanks for your candid, positive and detailed response. I appreciate it, as I’m sure others do on RP. I won’t quote verses or anything like that, but know that we’re here.

Thank you LTC Stephen C.. I have a great deal of spare time, as you might imagine.

FYI, I’m back in MICU. Hopefully we can get stabilized again and get me home soon.

Clearly there are a lot of workers in UAB Hospital who need help and a bit of inspiration. So, I have a Temporary Duty Assignment to go TDY for a few days to bring some cheer to this place.

PO3 Steven Sherrill thanks for posting the youtube hyperlinks which included Snoopy versus the Red Barron with the Royal Guardsmen singing along. The only thing I remember them singing was Snoopy and other Peanuts songs. I wonder if they had any other music or were another band that took that name for the Peanuts videos.

"'Snoopy vs. the Red Baron' is a novelty song that was written by Phil Gernhard and Dick Holler and recorded in 1966 by the Florida-based pop group The Royal Guardsmen."
"Charles Schulz and United Features Syndicate sued the Royal Guardsmen for using the name Snoopy without permission or an advertising license. (The Guardsmen, meanwhile, hedged their bets by recording an alternative version of the song, called 'Squeaky vs. the Black Knight'; some copies of this version were issued by Laurie Records in Canada. UFS won the suit, the penalty being that all publishing revenues from the song would go to them. Schulz did allow the group to write more Snoopy songs." from Wikipedia
