I first went into the Army in 1973, served for a hitch then transfered to the USMC, because I felt I wasn't getting the challenge that I needed... besides, with red hair, I looked much better in their Class A's than the Army green!<div> </div>

You and me both - my father entered the USMC in 1963 and was commissioned into the Army in 1987 . . . I entered the USMC in 1988 and was commissioned into the Army in 1993 - the USMC makes the finest Army Officers! Semper Fidelis!

I began my career in the Marine Corps in 1991 as a bulk fueler. I enjoyed my time in the Marine Corps and it was one of the defining moments of my life. But as much as I loved the Corps, I couldn't see myself pumping gas for the next 25-35 years. So I crossed over to the Navy side of the house, serving as an Operations Specialist with detachments for the USS Bristol County and USS Copeland from 1993-1994. I was released into the IRR at the end of 1994 and finished my contract there. I returned to the service joining the Army in 2010 and continue to serve as a medic now. When I leave full time service with the Army I've toyed with the idea of going for a fourth branch and going into the Coast Guard Reserves or Air National Guard.

A shout out to all of you former Marines and Sailors - face it, our time in the Naval Service made us more appreciative and gave us a perspective of doing more with less - so when it seems hard in the Army, well, there's hard, and there's rat_ _ _ _ed (fill in the blanks) hard. I served a tour in the Army 73-77, because I really, REALLY wanted to see Europe, and I knew that I could get there with the Army. I did, and I had an absolutely wonderful time thanks to Eur-Rail.
It made those family occasions rather touchy though, as there have been Marines in the family for 7 generations, and at last count, I had 21 cousins either serving or had served in the Marines, so I decided to switch over.
In the end, I realized that I just wasn't Army material, because it just wasn't that much of a challenge to me, having been raised by a Marine DI, who thought that every ten year old child should know how to field strip and fire a Garand and throw a grenade. On the upside, my childhood was quite... interesting, since my parents thought swingsets were for wimps, so I had a itty bitty 'Confidence Course', and I recall being laughed out of first grade for asking where the Head was. The life of a Marine "Baby Bootie"....

I served on active duty in the Navy from 1981 to 1987, Navy Reserve from 1989 to 1994, and on active duty in the Army from 1994 to 2008. I learned some great lessons during my service and the lessons I took from the submarine force served me well throughout the remainder of my career. There were things I loved and things I hated about both services so I can't say I preferred one over the other. I am proud of the fact that I didn't have an ordinary career!

Did the USCG from 1998 - 2008, made the switch and have been in the USA from 2008 - present. All Active Duty time. Blue to Green could have been better, but it worked out pretty well for me.

That little stint in the Navy Seabees was only 6 months my Guard unit was deactivated and I had to find a home. When a new Guard unit was activated went back at my Commanders request. And was damn happy I did!

There was a captain in my platoon in Ranger school who had just transferred from the Air Force (can't remember his MOS) to the Army Infantry. Ranger school was his first Army assignment. It was a rough transition.

I changed from the Navy to the Army. I loved the change.

My 1SG was prior service USMC and was one of the finest leaders I ever knew. He said he learned to lead in the Corps.

Additionally, I haven't served in the Marine Corps, but I am assigned to a Marine Corps unit as a chaplain. If I can swing a Coast Guard tour before they send me home I will have served with all 5 branches.

I Served 12 years in the Marine Corps 1984-1996, infantry Dragon Antitank and then Ammo Tech. Six years in the Tenn. Army National Guard 1996-2001, as a Stinger Gunner and Bradley Gunner. Then Active Duty Army from 2001-2012, as an Ammo NCO.

I enlisted in the Navy (84-96). Then became a chaplain in the Army and inter-service transferred back to the Navy. While in the Navy, I did a tour with both the Marines and Coast Guard.

I started with the Navy in 1993, (USS Ohio SSBN 726) took a break and went to the Army (E BTRY 1/1 ADA and A BTRY 6/52 ADA). Now I am finishing my 20 years in the Air Force reserves (72d Aerial Port Squadron).

Did the Coast Guard, Navy, Marines, Merchant Marines and then finished at NOAA. Dad did the Army and Air Force. So yes you can did multi services.

Started out in the active duty Army, later went to the Air Guard and then Air Force Reserve. I would argue 3 branches as the Guard feels like it’s a whole separate branch compared to the active or Reserve side.

Personally i eas Army 81-84 joined AF 84-92 broken vertabre in my neck ended my career. My uncle served 3 branches. Drafted by the AF then USMC reservists then retired active duty Army with 28 years of service

My Dad only served in the Army for 21yrs but I served 9.5 yrs in the Army from 7/66 to 5/75, I did a yr and a half in the Army Reserve from 6/75 to 10/76 and then I served in the Navy from 10/76 to 1/88 when I retired. My oldest son went the other way and did 6 yrs in the Navy and was out until after 9/11 and he joined the National Guard and served 2 tours in Iraq and 1 tour in Afghanistan. He's out completely now. He was almost 40 when he went in the NG

9 years U.S. Navy Seabees (BU1) then 2 year Army Military Police (Sgt). Was offered E7 If I would have stayed in the Constitution field. But I was more interested in changing things up and going into a new field so I lost a pay grade which was fine with me.
