Keeping a good subscription with an anti-ID theft group helps too because the workers of such groups are paid to stay ahead of the thieves. Doesn't have to be Lifelock either, and up to a hundred a year for the subscription is a small price compared to the financial damage ID theft can have. All for naught. They really want "their" money. Well, they ain't gonna get it, and I advised them that unless they want to lose my account of many years to Sprint or someone else, they'd better figure it out.
They've offered settlements at a reduced rate, but I am standing on principle. If they want to keep on pushing it, I'll see them in small claims court. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 12 Aug 2016 11:06:28 -0400 2016-08-12T11:06:28-04:00 Response by CW5 Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 12 at 2016 2:22 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/who-here-has-tips-for-sms-or-has-had-their-identity-stolen-and-what-are-some-techniques-for-repairing-credit-afterwards?n=1800671&urlhash=1800671

I protected myself by signing up for the free monitoring service from Uncle Sam when the great and powerful OPM hack happened.

Prevention is the best cure for any ailment though.
USAA has an excellent fraud detection unit and policies designed to benefit the customer. Check with your bank to see what they offer in the form of protection or how they handle claims.

Also, only use ATMs from bank branches (the ones at the bank or bank drive thru), never one at a convenience store or that looks like a mini slot machine or one that can be carted off. Skimmers can be planted in one of the small ones as 7-11 doesn't own them and could care less if someone was messing with one.
