Have been doing these jobs for over 4 years now and have been a scouter for approx 7. Am a Fox in the C5-192-12 Woodbadge course and a Greyfox in the tribe of the Golden Eagle. I spend a lot of time trying to improve my knowledge base so that I can give the boys a better experience and not just a lump on a log leader. BSA Ambassador, National Rep, International Rep, NESA Regent, etc. Currently on Editing Team for the National Merit Badge Task Force (all the merit badge books)--we launch a newsletter this month "Counselor's Compass". I currently also serve as national rep for Transatlantic Council, Europe. And on the National Community Alliances Committee; former editor of Jamboree Journal/Jamboree Today newspapers and newsletters, and the NESA Eagle Letter. Drum. I have two sons in the program and have been active in BSA and Order of the Arrow activities at the regional and national level. At the 2013 National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve in West Virginia I served on the national media team with a dual assignment as liaison to the West Virginia National Guard because I "spoke the language". I spoke the military language, not sure I spoke "West Virginian" fluently. <br /><br />COL Lester and his team of military support were absolutely fantastic to work with. <br /><br />Locally the 10th Mountain is very supportive of Scouting and especially our Pack 26/Troop 26 on post. Those units and Scouting has been the one constant for the kids involved as their Dads are frequently deployed. <br /><br />The 174th Attack Wing in Syracuse and Echo Company of the 4th LAR USMC are great partners for program support. We appreciate our military neighbors and have many moms and dads serving or whom have served. In 2011 we honored the U.S. Military at our "Boypower Dinner", one of the largest Scouting dinners in the nation. 4-star General Barry McCaffrey was our speaker that year, he was fantastic and very personable. I was a Venture Crew Advisor for Crew 357 for 3.5 years and prior I was an assistant 11 year old scout leader in Troop 357 for four years in Toquerville, UT. I was an instructor for New Scout Leaders at round table for the Zion District for one year. I am a registered merit badge counselor for 15 merit badges and run merit badge clinics for various troops in the area, outside of the clinics they hold at our local high school. Seven of my former crew members have attained Eagle Scout and two more will receive their Eagle in the next month. My youngest has been in for two years and loves it. Since I have left the hotel industry (on call 24 hrs), I plan on doing more with the BSA. Next month, I move into a committee chair (pack 211, in East Texas) and plan on making sure these kids get better leaders and learning opportunities over the next few years. Once the little one clears Webelo' s, I'll likely step up to the Boy Scouts with him.
