Favorite, Johnny Carson, Carnac the Magician was epic. Worst, tie between, Jay Leno, too pompous and Steve Allen on the Today Show (I know day time)too much chatting and differing to Jane Meadows. :)

CH (MAJ) William Beaver, as many have already said, and I agree, Johnny Carson was the all time best. However, I'll date myself some, and say that I did enjoy Jack Paar immensely even though I was pretty young.
As far as the worst, there are so many modern day hosts that are all horrible, it's hard for me to declare one of them worse than the rest. CPT Private RallyPoint Member

Johnny Carson was the best.

Letterman was the worst - hard left political and bitter personality (jokes about 14 yr. old Willow Palin getting raped at ball game, etc.).

I grew up watching Johnny Carson and for me he will always be the late night king.
Currently I really like Jimmy Fallon. David Letterman is/was right up there as well.
I have never been impressed with Jay Leno, Conan, or Jimmy Kimmel.
I didn't hate them, didn't love them, they were/are just sorta there.
I can't stand Bill Maher.. His take on just about everything irks the heck out of me

I'm just this side of too young to really remember Carson. Leno was passable. I love Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Fallon. Kimmel is my least favorite, I think.

Yes! Johnny Carson fans rule! So many of us grew up on him. I remember sneaking down the hallway as a kid to peek around the corned wand watch. He more than anyone had "The Touch". I agree Letterman was bitter. Of the current crop, Jimmy Fallon. He's still working on finding his center as the producers are. Very talented. "Ew", Slapjack, etc. are interesting experiments but nothing so far that's an institution worthy Carnac. Give him time. I do remember seeing some Jack Parr. He was the true trailblazer that make it possible for a Johnny Carson to succeed.

Favorite: Johnny Carson, no reason necessary!

Least favorite: Arsenio Hall. Reason? He just wasn't funny and I thought he was trying too hard to be like Johnny and Letterman.

I didn't grow up in the U.S. but Johnny Carson was hilarious but I'm tired of the same old format, all the late night shows are the same, and the hosts instantly forgettable/interchangeable. The funniest current American host is
Jimmy Fallon, but my all time favorites is Graham Norton.
