Anyone who knows about Don Shipley the guy who runs the SEAL database and verifies is someone was in fact a SEAL. Does anyone know of a person doing this on the Army or Marine Corps side? Here in Chicago I seem to run into someone claiming to be a Ranger or Green Beret every time I wear an Army related t shirt or ball cap. The majority of the time I walk away shaking my head knowing they are full of crap. I'm just curious to know if there is a Ranger database? And who verifies this stuff? You know it's bad when a signal guy thinks someone is full of crap.

I have always relied on my intuition. Usually if a person immediately identifies as Special Forces without any questioning or prodding I dismiss them as a fraud. I don't necessarily dismiss them as not have serving but when openly volunteered right away something seems a little shady to me.

I'll check into the groups suggested by you folks. It's true that intuition is a big factor in setting off the b.s. meter. The guy who comes running up to you saying I was a ranger or green beret 9 times outta 10 is blowing smoke. The honest ones won't volunteer that information right off the bat. Thanks for the suggestions.

Go to the Ranger Association or SF web sites. I think there is a search engine that you can use to look them up.
