I might take some heat for this, but I would say we, the United States, is the biggest threat to national security. We have continued to see a growth in homegrown terrorists and we continue to push dividers between the different groups that make up this country. The US was once a melting pot of different cultures but I think we have seen it start to move in the direction of those trays we got in the mess hall where each part of your meal is placed into it's own divided area. This leaves holes that countries like Chine, Russia, and North Korea can exploit. It allows groups like the ISIS to come in and set up areas of influence. Until we come together again as a unified body, we leave these gaps therefore making it easier to crawl over the wire.

China is stable enough that I don't think it's them.

So who isn't stable... The list is huge. Who isn't stable and has ability to alter US security in a meaningful way? North Korea? Questionable. Russia? Also questionable. Which sort of leads us to nonstate actors. As much as people think it's played out, in my opinion our largest threat is still terrorism/extremism.

China is not our enemy. Sure there is an ideological rift between our governments and philosophies. However Chinese "communism" is based upon Confucianism through and through.

Yep, I have to concur with everyone else on here. I will go with Congress however. Sequestration is the largest threat to our national security. Lack of action on the part of congress will force the United States Army to move to a 420K force structure. If you thought the last round of cuts was bad...just wait until the next round of cuts happen due to sequestration.

We live in an era where people love to point at the "other guy" when we discuss our problems as a nation. We vote for the most ideologically pure, hard line politicians we can find and insult/minimize anyone who dares to not toe our particular line. Lack of tact and open hostility are now valued over truth and teamwork.

In short, we're screwed and its our own damn fault. We're taking our social and political cues from men getting stupid rich by sewing division.

Also, China. Economy of scale and absolutely no ethical reservations. They won't attack us, they'll just rob us blind and then overwhelm us with a rapidly growing economy....either that or they'll crash and burn, taking us all with them.

The answer is homegrown extremism, be it "militias" or jihadis. Crazies with an extreme hard-line mentality are unquestionably our biggest threat.

in short, we are as a country our biggest threat. citizens will not stand for their rights and fight for them, we allow the government to grow stronger on a daily basis, we vote for people who are selfish and care nothing about our constitution. the supreme court thinks that it is now the supreme being, the president thinks that america is the reason for all of the worlds problems, and congress doesn't have the guts to stop POTUS or SCOTUS from what they are doing. the government is no longer for the people, by the people. democracy has nearly been eliminated, the electoral voting system is ridiculous, illegals are allowed to wander freely and commit horrific crimes and be rewarded for it. veterans are homeless while illegals are provided with shelter, food, and amnesty. The list goes on and on and on and on.

Someone with Great Knowledge of Cyberwarfare but not too concerned about how the use of it will be viewed. I would say North Korea although I am very aware of the Information Warfare capabilities of ISIS also.

Well ignoring the damage we're doing to ourselves, I'd say Russia, still, with their still-vast nuclear arsenal, and aged, yet still quite potent military hardware. In my opinion, a non-nuclear direct engagement with China would be over in a matter of days (this statement deliberately not including occupying China), simply because most of their hardware is inferior -- reference their new 'stealth' jet that can hardly turn, or their new 'aircraft carrier' that can't launch anything. They have a very few decent subs, and many more sub-par ones. They're much further from military parity with the US than Russia is, still.

Having said that, a Sino-Russian military alliance against the US would be...very bad. And some nut job lone wolf microbiologist...maybe worst of all.

I also believe it is us. No other country has the conventional forces necessary to invade us. China could f*ck with our fiances, Russia could nuke us, ISIS could get us one building a time, N Korea could be squashed like the gnat that it is. We are at a point where our leadership could not lead a squad of starving Marines to an all you can eat buffet. Just sayin', my opinion and not policy.

None of the above, our over bloated budget is our biggest threat. There will come a day when someone says no we can't loan you anymore...then what?
