Who knows about the last ruler of the Sikh empire? How far did the empire extend, and what was so iconic about this Maharaja?

Maharaja of the Sikh Empire was Ranjit Singh born today. He had the golden done installed on the Harmandar Sahib in the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. He added two more Gurudwaras to the Punch Namas and he built the modern Sikh army. British military consultants equipped this Sikh army with technology and fresh techniques of warfare.

It is of Sikh edged weaponry that I do have some knowledge. It is better to excel in any single art than to arrive only at mediocrity in several, so moderate skill in several is to be preferred where one cannot attain to perfection in any. (With my acknowledgement to Pliney, the younger.)

Most history courses are US or European centric. I did some legal research for a probate attorney which involved identifying postage stamps from all over the world -- many of those stamps commemorated important individuals or events in those countries - it was utterly fascinating and informative.
