Thankfully this nation continues to honor the military dead on Memorial Day, the living military who are serving on Armed Forces Day, and those who have served this nation on Veterans Day.
Veterans Day, 2022 is today, Friday, November 11.
On June 1, 1954 President Eisenhower signed legislation changing the name of the legal holiday from Armistice Day to Veteran's Day. Armistice Day had been established by President Woodrow Wilson on November 11, 1919 "To us in America, the reflections of armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations." The original concept for the celebration was for the suspension of business for a two minute period beginning at 11 A.M., with the day also marked by parades and public meetings.
Who will you be honoring this Veteran's Day? How will you honor Veterans?
I intend to get a voucher from Texas Roadhouse good through May 30, 2023, get a snack somehwere and eat a meal with my darling wife in the evening; and to stop by Texs de Brazil steakhouse next week.

I have been doing Military Funeral Honors as part of my USAR work. There literally is one tomorrow I'm on mission for. It might be just one of many other missions like these, but the day elevates the assignment.
*****
Now........ to add a bit of levity to the moment, it has dawned on me I will be in my Blues on Veterans' day, and it will be around lunch time when the Funeral Detail is complete.

LTC Stephen F. - I will honestly admit I have gotten past the first few hard ones keeping my composure, and it's becoming just another thing I do as I've now fallen into my routine.

When my grandfather had his (before I even considered joining myself) I was very annoyed at how ate up the detail was. Nothing I could do about it but just watch. Anyway, I'm now "THAT GUY" to annoy or not annoy. I'm that guy that hands off the flag and says the script. Oh behalf of the President................ That is unless I get pared up with a MAJ+

I can also go into a few stories with these various experiences (as not one is the same). I'll just mention that we were accompanied by a VFW rifle detail once, and while putting away their rifles they had a Negligent Discharge (blanks of course, but it interrupted the continuing services and other services in the area). I can tell you though all the conversational BS-ing about Navy verses Army ect........ between us and them came to an abrupt end after that happened :-)

But to the point I'm trying to make........... whatever attitude I have, one thing will always be constant and unavoidable. HALF of all the personal phone cameras will be out recording our every single step, motion, and word out of my mouth. As I present the flag I am right there face to face, and so close to multiple cameras at that time I have to conduct myself with absolute perfect military bearing. It's going on youtube. Maybe not now, but as I do more of these they are going to end up on YouTube.

I know this because I looked on YouTube to see what I was getting myself into. The only way to avoid a wider audience is to NOT BE ATE UP. None of you guys here will be interested in a run of the mill service, but if I did something embarrassing or unprofessional and it ended up there you'd all flock to YouTube like a swarm of hornets.

I will be at school taking my class to the Veteran's Day program and explaining to them why Veterans should always be respected regardless of which branch or MOS they served.
