I've been telling this to anyone who would listen to years. Deaf ears.
There is the "perception" that we are more violent than we were before. It's not backed by fact. As the standard of living and overall education in the US has increased, crime and violence has gone down.
There are "hot spots" of violence (high population density, low education, high poverty) but they are anomalies, not rule. The media presents them because bad news sells, not good news.

The ability for the media to spread news (and opinions) on social media platforms also enables sensationalism as well as general awareness. Back in the 90s, I only heard about Chicago murders if I read about them in the paper or if someone important to society was killed.

MAJ Carl Ballinger Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS Yes, gentlemen, the anecdotal appears chronic.
But I do believe that people are tired of statistics as they are too easily manipulated OR forces us to see truths that we would prefer to deny.

Overall crime (murders) have been decreasing for years. In about a dozen major cities it is on a dramatic increase. The overall numbers do not tell the story of violent crime in our larger cities.

I understand that most people watching news casually could walk away thinking crime was way, way up but it is not. There are many places you are safer than ever before. There are some places you do not want to go (see your chart for locales).
We are sliding into the abyss in our larger cities. My opinions is decades and decades of unaccountable democrat leadership, the welfare state, little economic growth or hope and a very violent culture (movies, TV, music etc).
