We begged for M4s because some much of the work we do is in confined spaces where the longer barrel and butt stock are difficult to maneuver, but we got the one size fits all answer. </p><p><br></p><p>We were transitioning from the Colt M1911A1 to the Beretta M9 as the personal sidearm when I enlisted. Expert was the one to get and even that was if my memory has not failed me only around 26. Needless to say the Terminology and the Qualification might have been different for the other branches. The M16 was fun to shoot, but not a practical weapon for most CG missions. The most interesting thing I ever shot was an old Springfield .30 calibre smooth bore line throwing gun. The breech exploded, but I wasn't injured. I might have been the last person to ever fire one of those antique things. My records show I qualified Expert with the Sig, but I have never even had one in my hands. I think an O needed a 100% qualification of personnel and that's how it ended up on my records. (The CG carrys Sigs for CONUS LE mission now.) On my APC M113A I had two cases of law's, C-4 , Décor (loved it) blasting caps (fuse &amp; electric) a 90 recoilless my .45, M-79, M-16,M-60 &amp; sat behind my .50 Cal. When we were on road security the kids would bring me unexploded rounds to blow up. I had a box of blasting in my left shirt packet, &amp; cramped them on the fuses with my teeth. Drill Sgts let us shoot up the ammo on full auto after everyone qualed. They didn't want to count it, easier to weigh the brass I guess.</p><br /><p>AIT was Expert with M-16A2. Also used the M16A2 for the rest of the time. Qualed and carried my PIG at my first duty station. Did reserve time. Started with a PIG and an A2. They took that away and gave me a MK-19. </p><br /><p>The only guys I knew who carried 1911s while I was in was the 1st Sgt and the CO. The M-16 is my rifle of choice if given a option. I am also qualified Expert with the 45 pistol and 9mm pistol.
