Whose qualified as a Marksman with the M-16?

I know when I was in when the drew the latitude and longitude lines on the face of the earth. But, who has qualified on this weapon and/or the 38?

Larry, You are referring to the M16 that most SMs carried during the 80s into the 90s correct, if so, I qualified expert every time to include BRM that got me sent to sniper school 1984 for further training, I miss that place I loved the chance to train on so many varied rifles at the time for an 18 year old.

And for the 38 are we taking the police 38 caliber or is there another one the military used, because my original MP issue was a m1911 and then switched to the Beretta 9m right around DS, and for drug interdiction I had several a Glock 17, and a Taurus for a short time. I still think the 1911 was the best at least in my opinion.

I qualified on the M16A1 back in 1988 at basic training. On 2003 mobilizing to Afghanistan I qualed on the M16A2. When I started to work overseas security contracts starting 2011 I qualified on both M4 and M16A4.

I started basic training with the M16 and my first duty station was full of them...I didn't see an M4 till I got to Wheeler AAF, HI. But I have shot expert with the M16A2

Once I learned the importance of disciplined breathing I shot expert with the M-16, barely qualified with the 9mm

I missed marksman, (expert?) by one, and two rounds, the last two times I had to qualify. Grr! I really wanted that stupid ribbon!

I qualified expert with the M16A1, and have since duplicated that feat with the A2 model. We begged for M4s because some much of the work we do is in confined spaces where the longer barrel and butt stock are difficult to maneuver, but we got the one size fits all answer.

We were transitioning from the Colt M1911A1 to the Beretta M9 as the personal sidearm when I enlisted. I qualified expert with it during my transition training.

I never saw the .38 except in the hands of the DOD police or the contract security officers on the USN, USAF and USA bases.

I don't have a marksman qualification for the M-16, but I remember shooting pretty well while in RVN....I did qualify as a marksman with the M-14 though!

Larry, I qualified as an EXPERT on the M16 and the 38 and marksman on the 45. The 9mm was just coming in when I went back to the regular Air Force and I didn't have the pleasure of qualifying on it.

Larry, most of us who were in the Infantry did not consider Marksman anything note worthy if memory serves me right you only need 16 out of 30 shots to qualify. Expert was the one to get and even that was if my memory has not failed me only around 26. Needless to say the Terminology and the Qualification might have been different for the other branches. I qualified Expert on the M16, 1911, and Beretta, and qualified with the riot shotgun in A school and maintained quals every 6 months for years. The M16 was fun to shoot, but not a practical weapon for most CG missions. The most interesting thing I ever shot was an old Springfield .30 calibre smooth bore line throwing gun. The breech exploded, but I wasn't injured. I might have been the last person to ever fire one of those antique things. My records show I qualified Expert with the Sig, but I have never even had one in my hands. I think an O needed a 100% qualification of personnel and that's how it ended up on my records. (The CG carrys Sigs for CONUS LE mission now.)

The first weapon I qualified on was an M-14, quickly followed by an M-16. During IOBC we qualified on a broad range of weapons M-16, M-203, M-60, TOWs and I think the M1911. We did familiarization fire with the M2, LAWs, M67, and Redeyes. Got to shoot alot of things in IOBC

Qualified Expert on the M16-A1 and Grenades. Qualified Expert on all Bundeswehr hand held weapons. I was a Truck Driver so I guess that's pretty good ;)

I was an 11B /11H which means I was qualified with M-14, M-16, M-60, M-79( the old one without the guard to stop your hand from sliding under the release lever & giving you a nasty cut) the 75, 90. & 106 recoilless rifles & .45 & .50cal, Law's. On my APC M113A I had two cases of law's, C-4 , Décor (loved it) blasting caps (fuse & electric) a 90 recoilless my .45, M-79, M-16,M-60 & sat behind my .50 Cal. When we were on road security the kids would bring me unexploded rounds to blow up. I had a box of blasting in my left shirt packet, & cramped them on the fuses with my teeth. There was so question as to my sanity.

Basic was Sharpshooter with the M16-A1. Drill Sgts let us shoot up the ammo on full auto after everyone qualed. They didn't want to count it, easier to weigh the brass I guess.

AIT was Expert with M-16A2. Also used the M16A2 for the rest of the time. Qualed and carried my PIG at my first duty station. Did reserve time. Started with a PIG and an A2. They took that away and gave me a MK-19.

The only guys I knew who carried 1911s while I was in was the 1st Sgt and the CO. Tankers carried .38s.

I am qualified Expert with the M-16A1 Rifle and personally own a modified M-16. The M-16 is my rifle of choice if given a option. I am also qualified Expert with the 45 pistol and 9mm pistol. I have never seen a 38 pistol used in the Army.

During Plebe summer during my first three months at Annapolis, I qualified as a Sharpshooter with the M16 and 45 Cal after never having held a weapon or shot one in my life.

I qualified as a Marksman....but wasn't too happy about it. I usually qualed at least at Sharpshooter, sometimes Expert.

I had Armory duty as an additional duty. Went to the range numerous times to site in new weapons. Qualed expert in the M-16 and .38, then the M9 when we switched.

Peace Keeper Challenge competition team member, Army Recon cross trained, Air Base Ground defense, Soviet Weapons Threat analysis certification, M-16, XM-302, .38, .9mm, M-60, all expert. Wish I had more close combat training but, I did enjoy mortar school and M-60 as a spotter. Those of you that mentioned that you had sniper training...hats off to you for being selected.

Qualified as expert with the M16-A1 in 1987 basic training, M16-A2, M-4 for deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and M-9.

Have famiarized and fired live HE round of the LAW (1989), M-2, M-60, SAW, M-249, M-240, MK-19, the old .45 greese gun, and th M-1911. As an Army medic then later as an Air Force nurse, I was not allowed to actually qualify with any of these systems. Had a great time doing it though!! I actually HIT the 300M target with the LAW...it would not have been a kill shot, but I knocked the tracks of the tank that was out there!
