Why are people so obsessed with bigger phones?

So, with launch of the new Apple IPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It has come to my attention that the phones keep getting bigger and bigger. This does not make sense to me. I love Apple, and have all sorts of apple products including the IPhone 5. But I just can't bring myself to buy the new phone. 4.7 in and 5.5 in. These phones are huge. There is no reason for it. If you want a tablet get a tablet, you want a phone stick with a phone. I for one don't need a styles for my phone. I don't want to feel like I am holding a brick to my head. We got rid of the brick phone a long time ago.

Am I the only one that feels this way? Just curious on everyone else's thoughts.

No sure, but maybe for the same reason that put large lift kits on trucks and tires to bog for the vehicle they are on. The phones are almost as large as a Kindle Fire now, so why not just carry an iPad with service and a phone number and hold that up to thy ear?

I myself have no real interest for phone of any kind, I don't have a phobia its just that I don't like to have a phone were I get called every 15 mins for things that could wait. How ever, what I find funny is that some of the phones do have the capability of holding data, such as music.
Now image you put that phone to play music in a party and every one is dancing all of the sudden you get a phone call. This actually happened, only thing was that we all heard the conversation though loud highly amplified speakers. lol

I have no desire to trot around with something that big that I need a man purse or BDU cargo pockets to carry it in.

WAIT. it just dawned on me!

Apple's coming out with, wait for it, iPants - complete with the iPocket for carrying these things, a built in, retractable charging cable in the out seam, and a wifi adapter in the zipper to fashionably redefine the wifi "hot spot". Nifty Apple logo on the back pockets to bring back the completely underrated 80's designer jean era.

The reason the phones are getting bigger and bigger is simple. Phones are no longer just phones. They are getting more and more involved. Netflix, Hulu, Skype, Messaging, Apps, Wifi router, etc.

Screens 'need' to be bigger and bigger so that people can see all this other stuff they are trying to do...

For some reason tablets are not good enough...

on another thought, my son either needs an invisible phone or the smallest he can get as his teacher took his this week and placed him on after school restriction due to his usage IN CLASS! The bus driver got him he day before! Parenting rocks!

I'm disappointed that the 6 is bigger than the 5. I have an iPad, I want a phone that is small enough to securely fit in my pocket.

We're less concerned with smaller equaling more portability for the traditional phone handset and more so concerned with abilty to use the "smart" portion of our "smart phone". If you want a phone, stick with a brick, you'll pay less anyhow.

You have to stop thinking of them as phones and instead think of them as hand held portable computers, which can communicate via mobile networks... because that is what they are. They stopped being phones when the flip phone when out of style... sometime around the first Motorola Razor

I think it's hilarious. Phones started out large and everyone wanted smaller and smaller ones. Now the trend is reversing and the phones are getting bigger and bigger.

SSG Steven Borders You're not alone. One of my main reasons for having an iPhone 5S is because of it's relatively small size. I preferred the size of the iPhone 4, but can live with the larger screen of the 5 series. The new 6 series is too much for me and when it's time to upgrade I'll be looking at other options.

I just like being able to operate a phone one handed. Having a screen size that allows me to have my thumb reach and touch any point on the screen is pretty important to me.
