I am not at all woriied that my name is out there for Active Duty to see, but why the "secrecy" about your names? It just seems strange to me that Active Duty members names are hidden and cannot be view by Retired and/or Veterans, unless they choose to allow it. Many SM do allow it, but those who do not, Why Not? Is it that you are worried that you might be identified by a crusty old fart and IDed? I am just not sure of the reasoning. Can you enlighten me?

MCPO Treants, mine is set so that verified veterans can view my name, but unverified veterans cannot.

It's not because I have something to hide. It's because when given a choice, I don't share my personally identifiable information (PII) with those who don't have a need to know. That rule was preached to me in basic training and is reiterated every year in one of our mandatory training courses.

Specialist Thundercloud, that really does make a lot of sense to me, I never realized how many did not get verified - and it is a bit of a pain to do as a vet or retired, but not that difficult. All you really have to do is scan and send.

In fact, because you said what you did, unverified members can no longer see all od ny info either. Thanks Ms. Thundercloud.

I'm verified, but I STILL see a lot of hidden names. My take on it (based on experience) is that SOME choose to hide behind anonymity so that the disrespectful, and/or unprofessional remarks they make don't follow them back to their commands. I've seen conversations start where you could read their names and then they changed it to where you couldn't see their name. For others, it may just be that they overlooked a setting.

SFC James Sczymanski that really sounds like a great idea! There are just so many still hiding out for some reason. How hard is it to upload a picture after all? And I don'd mean a cartoon either like many do.

Master Chief; Thank you for the heads up, I just checked my settings and made the appropriate changes to allow both active duty and veterans to view my profile.

Thanks COL. That was my real intent. I know most did not realize the default settings. Appreciate your sharing.

I don't recall messing with the settings. Checking it just now, I saw my name showing as "partial" to verified veterans.

I honestly was unaware of the option.

Maybe this thread will allow others to become aware of the option. Thanks - I did not realize the default either until today.
