That by itself can come across as rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. I think another part of it is that many of us see the nation is going in a bad direction, we disagree on how to fix it, but more than that, often it seems that the majority of people are content to stick their head in the sand and ignore the problem. That of course leads to anger. By and large, I do not see the community as being overly negative. Politics is always going to have people at odds. Religion is another issue that tends to have people very defensive. THat is understandable because it is such a personal issue. I try to just be me. I am not going to go out of my way to be mean, but I am by my nature sarcastic and abrasive. I know that comes across as being an asshole which I have admitted to. The vast majority of discussions that I read and in which I participate, are polite though sometimes contentious. I say "surprisingly small" because this is an exceptional year, a very exceptional year. We are electing a new President in a time of great turmoil. Have you considered the parallels between today and the 1930's? Just as the Great War (WWI) was a prelude to WWII, the Russians are rearming and becoming increasingly bellicose very much resembling Germany between the two world wars. A new tyranny is rising in the Middle East just as one arose in the Far East in that time (Japan). Meanwhile, like Harold McMillan, Barack Obama is negotiating with the aggressors and his stooge, John Kerry, returns home waving a treaty. I'm surprised he didn't announce "Peace for our time". Fortunately, the vast majority of those who serve/served have greater sense than the average civilian and there's but a smattering of Leftists on RallyPoint (which probably explains the apparent lack of incivility). No one complains when something like this is shown. We all cringe and think "glad I'm not "insert rank here", and keep making jokes. I think we've beaten the election primaries within an inch of the 2089 election for President. We could use more balance between professional growth, bitching and complaining over the liberals censoring RP...no it's the cons censoring RP, or is it the TDY SPC who hacks in and censors everyone? And humor. We can all be hardasses. We've all done it, at many of our stages, laughing is all we have left outside of telling the youth how bad we messed up and look at our example and don't do it. Personally I'd rather tell a young Soldier how not to inspire the entire Army to use your counseling statements as the "Magic Bullet", how not to be in 1SG's office at parade rest, how not to have to pick up pine cones in the winter, or the myriad of ignorant stuff I did. I like my humor posts to start and end the week. <br />BTW...somewhere in the Army there is a PSG cringing knowing the weekend is here and he has to release the hounds...it's Friday the 13th, AND Payday. Bragg Blvd, Victory Blvd, Kileen, Campbell, and Irwin will be busy. I'd add Bliss, but the Sergeants Major academy is there and NO SGM would dare act up.
