Why are there so many posts about the exact same thing/topic? I thought RP monitored topics.

It's amusing that you ask that, because recently when I put in my own question, I typed in the keywords and there were zero similar discussions going on. But as soon as I posted my question, the similar discussions block on the right hand side listed half a dozen discussions all regarding the same topic. It could simply be a glitch in the search parameters. I wouldn't say that the topics aren't being monitored, more likely the discussions aren't searchable.

From what I remember back when I was an admin here the amount of butthurt ensuing from merging topics was unreal. Admins do watch for this, but they're here on a volunteer basis and can't catch them all. Some slip through the cracks, and once they've developed a life of their own generally they stay up even if they are near identical to another topic.

SSG Pete Fleming You ever been fishing? Did you catch them all? Ya us neither. By all means if you see a duplicate post, flag it so an Admin can have a look. Thanks for taking the time to post.. It is an issue we strive to address, but it's not a perfect system.

That's what they pay admins to do. They are overpaid!!! Repeat topics are all but completely ignored unless you are on someone's radar screen.

SSG Pete Fleming, LTC Yinon Weiss, it has been more common since this new system of sharing a link or asking a question was enacted. Under the old system previous threads would pop up when you entered the subject line, and it was easy to see if it had been posted before. Now one does not get that checkpoint.

I don't know how to check to see if a link has been posted previously if it doesn't pop up in the first few threads under "Answers" > "New".
